Thank you.
Thank you.

I shall prove worthy of this difficult task..

Is it just me or do we seem to have gone off topic a little bit?

When I'm around we always go off topic.  It's what I do best.

Babelfish translated this as "The other German Lautsprecherin".

Yeah, well, Babelfish for sure can't translate that. The word doesn't really exist. The lady played with the two translations for speaker. One being the German speaker and one being the loudspeaker. And so she called herself a German loudspeaker, but with the female ending (which exists for the speaker person, but not the loudspeaker). Oh my, I think I got a knot in my brain... At least I didn't have to translate something like Saftschubse... smile

Re: in deutsch

Sigh. I knew I should keep my mouth shut. OK, here we go. Saft = juice. Schubse comes from schubsen, which basically means "to push". And it's the female noun created from it (so basically a female pusher). Combined: A female juice pusher. Or, in other words, a stewardess. big_smile

Update: Hah, the Leo dictionary actually knows it:
http://dict.leo.org/ende?lang=en&search=saftschubse

So Trolley dolly it is then...

Danke, 01raptor, du hast auch gerade meinen Tag gemacht! :-D
*lachtränenwegwisch*

Ok, that's now officially disgusting and should be considered "language violation". Is there some sort of crime scene investigation for this? (I wouldn't mind testifying to gorgeous Gil Grissom, but that's another story..)

Ha! Take this, Babelfish!

Re: in deutsch

Just one to make draculady laugh:
When Babulfish came out, we tried out several phrases and at one point just for fun entered "It's fucking cold". Translation was "Es bumst Kälte". big_smile

For our English speakers: Just take every single word of the sentence literally and you might get the translation (Babelfish assumed, that cold was a noun).

Re: in deutsch

I once worked with a fellow who had worked on the early computer translation for NSA, circa 1960.  One of the tests they used was to translate from Language A to Language B back to Language A.

"The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."
English-Russian-English
"The wine is good, but the meat is spoiled."

"There might be a little dust on the bottle."
