One in case the first one runs out, the third one incase that one runs out, and a spare just in case someone asks for a pen and another spare, in case either that one runs out, or someone else asks for a pen, and then you'll still have the 3 you need incase in the worst case scenario, that 2 of them should run out and if the 3rd one runs out, then you'll probly just have to ask someone else if they've got a pen.
