In Norway, a show called Trekant (triangle) is aired on NRK, Noways public television station, and it is all about sex. More clearly, it bills itself as "Educational reality series on sex."
Excuse me... how amazing is this? This, to me, is the ultimate realization of the reality show format. Fuck watching a bunch of jacked-up chumps try and put hunks of styrofoam into a pyramid shape before a girl in a bikini untangles some sailors knots - reality shows were imagined to provide a voyeuristic view into the lives of others, a thing much in demand, and got corrupted into a brainless cheap TV-exec wankfest.
But in Trekant, the format is used to provide much needed illumination into the world of real (very real, very graphic) sexuality, and that's where Dodson and Ross come in. Last August they were invited to Oslo to participate in the filming of an episode, in which Trekant would show the first ever vulva and orgasm on television. When the reality show star got cold feet, the producers urged Carlin to replace her.
Read about the experience here, at Carlin's blog, and watch the episode here with Betty at 22:15, and Carlin and Betty together at 33:15, in english.
And, I really want to know what Carlin means about tension orgasms, but I have spent enough time on this so it will have to wait, unless someone would like to do some research and explain a little bit to me...

I will watch this as soon as I get home from the lecture on "the latest word on the word". I'm being brainy today.

You just gotta love the little disclaimer that starts the episode:
"Trekant is about sex! The show may contain embarrassing scenes. Best enjoyed without parents and in-laws"
Oh, and just FYI, the word "trekant" literally means "triangle", but it's also the term used for "three some" in Swedish, and I assume Norwegian as well. So it's not just a random geometric form they chose to describe their sex ed show.

Viva this post discribes the relaxation orgasm and tension orgasm, and combination all defined seperately after a general introduction.

Carlins orgasm in the show was the tension orgasm, the relaxation orgasm wasn't used I think because it involved Betty as well and they were showing the woman and everyone else who doesn't know how to clitorally masterbate solo.
I watched it last week and I found it moving that this information had slipped out of our culture entirely so had to be taught by strangers to a woman well passed puberty, which is really sad because self orgasmic sexuality is empowering and something I've taken for granted all my life. but at the same time marvelous that it's now being taught.
I like this paragraph from the 2nd page of this article about how few women orgasm vaginally http://abcnews.go.com/Health/Reproducti … s6byGClDCZ
"What is startling and surprising to me is that both men and women buy into the same sort of cultural model," he said. "If he is a good lover, he can bring me to orgasm with his penis alone. And a man buys into that and doesn't offer any kind of stimulation. And because he's not any good, she won't say anything because it's emasculating."
Be nice to give Carlin a forum login so she can comment here.

Thanks Blissed, that's precisely the article I didn't have time to find yesterday It's a really great way to distinguish types of female orgasm - I remember we had a thread recently attempting to do so - these categories make more sense to me, although in some ways I don't identify. For me, those stealth orgasms are actually less likely to be tension orgasms because the speed and rigidity is a dead giveaway (when you're sleeping next to someone you don't want to wake up with your masturbation). Instead I have to consciously relax, relax, relax, relax, and fantasize like crazy until it's inevitable and the orgasm moves through me like low tide, just waves and waves and waves.

I think that describes the human orgasm for both sexes really. An orgasm will use all our bodies available energy if it can, and if some of that is being used already (by tense or moving muscles) then that energy is unavailable to it. I've had a relaxation orgasm without knowing what it is and certainly I think for most people who stop masterbating at the point of orgasm so their hand, arm, shoulder and back muscles needed to masterbate, aren't moving, that considerable amount of available energy is all given to the orgasm and it's whole body involentary feelings and movements.

FWIW, the categories from dodsonandross.com are not a good match to my experiences. But then, they were never intended to be a Grand Unified Theory of Orgasm.

Yeah I think where grand unified theories of anything break down is when you try to apply them to subjective human experience. But they're good for physics and stuff.
