Waaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!
My windows media player is being a total double-mother-in-law-goat-f*cker-with-cheese!
I'm not sure what the bleep-diddly-smudge is going on. I cant seem to play files or watch videos. I upgraded to the latetest version and that didnt seem to work at all.
They wont load or play, it just dosent seem to work.
Any ideas?
Can the previews be played on Winamp?
Well... there was nothing in my dark side that really interested me. I guess I just dont have what it takes to be a bad guy.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: dump that piece of junk and use QuickTime. (Forget what the site says about "for Mac users." QuickTime works on the PC too.)

My PC just does not like QT. It keeps crashing. It's fine with WMP 11, AVS or RealPlayer (Apart from tonight when it decided that it wasn't going to talk to any of them. Did a system restore and it is fine now. (exept that the forum clock is now 2 hours fast). God I hate computers.

But why do they do this sort of thing Ashmedi? I am seriously thinking of buying a MAC. I know you are limited in the choice of ad-on software but I gather that they come "fully loaded" with everything you are likely to need, that everything is fully compatible and that you rarley have any trouble with them I've never used one so I would be grateful to hear the opinions of anyone who has spent a lot of time with both systems.

Have never used a Mac so can't offer any
words of wisdom.
They used to be much more expensive and
priced out of my range and the early ones
were sadly lacking in options etc, so I just
never got around to it.
Unfortunately, PC's and Windows runs relatively
fine for a while, then files get screwed up or
registry entries are corrupt. Windows does not
do a good job of cleaning itself up.
I am always backed up for data and periodically
I just decide it is time for a house cleaning and
a complete rebuild and reload is what is called for.
Aggravating but computers just don't function as
well as the biologic human brain.

Thanks, Ashmedi. Now this poor PC user is paranoid, haunted and frightened.

It decided not to be friends with any of my media players again. I got a picture and no sound. Done another sytem restore and it appears to be OK for the moment. This happened to me once before recently when it would play one vid but wouldn't play the sound of any others until I restarted my PC. I have XP home edition Ashmedi and you can't use the discs to "refresh". About the rebuild that sounds like a good idea but I would not have a clue how to go about it.

By the way anyone else had problems with the forum clock? The chappy from Swede Land tells me he had the same problem this morning.

I guess there is a problem. Since I don't
see so good, I didn't notice that my last post
was made at 3:30 and it's just 3:30 now and
that post was made hours ago.

Of course it works with Winamp! Why does anybody ever use any other program? Go on, put that windows media player in the trash at once!

I'm saving for a MAC too. Can't wait. I've used them and compared to a PC, they're soooo smooth-running and non-crashing and nothing-ever-goes-wrong-y. So good choice elf!
This is soooooo good! It's like sex, except I'm having it.

Thanks Captain. I'm grateful for your input. I'm a big fan of nothing-ever-goes-wrong-y. I gather that they aren't as susceptible to viruses either.
Question. Will files stored on my PC transfer to a MAC? (Word documents, MPGs etc).
Question. I am thinking of doing some digital photography. Is it true that MACs are better for image editing?

Yes
and yes
Elf I've always used Macs and I'm looking at replacing my compy now.
All the macs at he mo are powered by an intell chip so you can run windows on them as well and theres also lots of conversion software for files and Microsoft software for OSX. So windows compatibility is what their making a great play of .
I'm thinking of getting a laptop again, because if you have a prob you can just take it into the shop and say sort it out and having superior intelligence they just do it in 2 mins.

Not any more: All the new Macs are now built around Intel chips and can, using Apple's free (I think) Boot Camp software, boot up in Windows, if there's a Windows-only app you just have to have. (You do have to buy your own copy of Windows, though; Apple won't give you that for free!)
...but I gather that they come "fully loaded" with everything you are likely to need, that everything is fully compatible and that you rarley have any trouble with them.
You can do an awful lot with the software that's bundled on a new Mac fresh out of the box. Further, Apple's (not free but inexpensive) iLife and iWork packages cover most of the next-level needs (e.g., iWork includes Keynote and Pages, equivalent to PowerPoint and Word, respectively. You'll probably end up buying some third-party apps anyway, depending on what you use your machine for, but except for esoteric specialist programs, you should be able to find everything you need in Mac-native programs.
I've never used one so I would be grateful to hear the opinions of anyone who has spent a lot of time with both systems.
I'm pretty biased -- my family has been an Apple family since the original Apple ][, long before IBM could even spell PC -- but I've used Apple products at home for about 25 years now (counting the pre-Mac years), and I've used Windows exclusively at work for more than 10 years. The primary software tool I use at work -- FrameMaker -- is no longer available for Mac (Adobe dropped it a couple years ago), but I would NEVER buy anything else for my personal use... especially now that a new Mac will run even the very few Windows programs I might really want.
(BTW, I haven't been ignoring y'all; I've just been offline because of... wait for it: computer problems! Power supplies do sometimes fail, no matter how good the machines they're in are!)
