Favourite blog?

What is your favourite blog?

It doesn't have to be sexy or about sex at all.

Mine is:

I made you a beard

Re: Favourite blog?

Ooh love your Tumbr Ngiao I think your a really good visual/art/anything DJ smile

Just stumbled on an interesting blog that after a while becomes visually fascinating as an antidote to the medias visual focus on youth. There are quite a few people in the blog that have created a great mature aesthetic and look quite beautiful. I love how cute the 80 year Old designer Miyano Haraki is. Love to see some cultural respect and credibility shown to people who've been round the sun more times than we have.

Re: Favourite blog?

Rebecca Watson runs a 10,000 follower blog called Skepchick which is good, but I prefer her youtube channnel. She can be a bit too dry and snarky sometimes but she has a few things to be snarky about

I liked her interview with Tim Minchin too

Re: Favourite blog?

Skepchick is cool. That whole Richard Dawkins thing recently did my head in though - so much uproar over a casual invitation for casual sex. Then I'm confused because I'm clearly "not getting something". But then I feel sad because I can never ever get everything. And I feel frustrated because my opinions have less weight because I have privilege because I'm white and drink coffee whenever I want to. but they have more weight because I have a vagina. and then I feel annoyed because people get labeled with privilege stickers when all they did was be born. And then I wonder if sterility is truly the cost of respect in society, and I think no. I don't like it. at then some meandering point in the logic train, I become part of the problem. WHAAA!!!!

so I also really like Hyperbole and a half!

Re: Favourite blog?

This is probably complete irrelevant but my reaction to that blog post was:

Richard Dawkins and every other religious* spokesperson like him is not worth taking too seriously, when there is life to be enjoyed and real problems to be solved.

I happen to think male circumcision is horrible and I regret having been a victim of it, but, that doesn't mean that I have to compare myself with victims of FGM. Every circumstance is unique and millions are worse than mine. One person's horror story does not lessen or increase the horror of another person's story. Should we throw all our dogs in puppy mills because bad things are happening in Sudan? Should we ignore Sudan because puppy mills exist? And so on and so forth.

Enjoy being yourself and do what you can to help the people in YOUR life whether across the world or across the cubicle. Why waste another moment caring what the nice-but-often-stupid rich old Richard thinks?

It occurs to me that I have no point that I'm trying to make, not entirely lucid at the moment, just a collection of random thoughts dredged up by that blog smile

*in the general sense of a system of beliefs about the world, not necessarily supernatural.

Re: Favourite blog?

I'm on Rebeccas side here and with PZ Myers. She was there and perceived an uneasy ambiguous situation at 4 am where she felt incredibly uncomfortable, She wasn't hateful, she said everybody else at the conference was great exept one guy and she just mentioned it as part of a video, and made a request, which was totally reasonable and she didn't make a big deal of it. Other people are doing that and many are being hatefull. that's what I find disgusting and misogynistic the level of hatred when even if someones fears are unfounded they deserve empathy and sympathy.

For everyone who doesn't know what we're talking about heres the video. The part we're interested in starts at 4:30

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKHwduG1 … ideo_title

It was her video where she laid out her own personal boundaries to her own community, not as many think everybiody elses boundaries all over the world. It was a message to me, and it was that she doesn't like being "sexualised in that way" (selfishly objectified by someone who doesn't care about her desires just their own) especially in a possible rape scenario where an asailant isn't concerned with your desires. and the lack of control in that situation was to me obviously starting to point to thst a little in the back of her mind and made her feel "incredibly uncomfortable".  Some peoples ultimate fear of rape or assualt is greater than others. So there you are those are her personal boundaries.

I've been posting in Rebeccas defence all over the net today and yesterday and to all the haters I've said we weren't in the elavator at the time and she was there, why should we tell her how she should feel. Anyway, I've discoverd  a few women who concurr, who want sex with who they choose but their desires and that simple concept are regularly ignored, and I also think youtube comments are really good because they take a lot of really inconsiderate and mind blowingly stupid people away from other places that are having productive conversations smile

Re: Favourite blog?

Oooh Urtica I like the foraging blogs. Way to poison myself properly smile There's some absolutely amazing blackberries around me at the moment and I take them from very neglected places away from a road or the possible pesticides of kept properties. I should put that last bit in a poem smile I've found the best way to eat blackberries and raspberries is to suck them like a sweet and they break up and kind of melt in your mouth. They're gorgeous like that because you can enjoy them without getting any seeds stuck in your teeth.

On Sequoias blog, I like her account of her clients and how being intimate with so many people over a long period can give you insights into the real human condition, of the falseness of gender polarity and an understanding of what lies beneath, that would be very difficult to discover in any other way. Why not pool prostitutes knowledge into a sex work university, and accredit people who are the best sex therapists so they can be referred too by doctors. i.e if you have erectile problems or painful erections, who better to see than someone who can induce an erection and video the results for medical evaluation. or even better a prostitute with specialist urology certs who could do the whole diagnosis. A sex work university would filter the knowledge back into society as people from it would be asked their opinion on TV shows and government advisory committees which would feed back again positively  into how sexuality is viewed and mean that  the people who assist and provide pleasure are appreciated.

Faircompanies youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/kirstendirk … aVSUUl-olQ

and there's a blog too http://faircompanies.com/

It's a nice antidote to the news whichis  so negative. I love seeing all the things people are doing to find solutions to problems and make life better.

glad you like the blogs!  i've thought of doing one myself... about foraging adventures, herbal medicine, and what projects i work on in general, but it just seems like so much more time in front of a screen!

yes, i too love reading sequoia's descriptions of her clients.  she writes about her experiences so beautifully.

not a blog, but you should check out permies.com... an awesome permaculture forum with tons of good information
