Sticky Wikki What.

Can we talk about Wikkileaks. I'm kind of torn. On one hand, I support the freedom of the press. I want people to have the ability to get the word out, if need be, so I can make informed decisions. Wikkileaks can be a valuable tool.
But (there's always a big but) the organisation that is wikkileaks is flawed. Too often when the founder speaks it seems its all about him and his work and his glory. He's out on bail. I haven't heard anything from the guy that released the information. It should be all about them. Do we need an organization out front encouraging possibly unstable people to make this big leap over a cliff. What kind of counseling does the org give their sources before they  do something that could radically change their lives.  This is hard stuff. Any thoughts?

They should read the stuff before they put it out. Who but a terrorist wants to know key infastructure lists. It kind of saves them an awful lot of work doesn't it.
Anyway, apart from that, I generally agree with Ron Paul.

I think WikiLeaks is excellent! I hope there's something like them around forever. I fear we may lose our freedom here in the U. S. and WikiLeaks just may save it. Long live!

But don't you think the leaks also make the US and its citizens more likely to be attacked?

An interesting irony - Julian Assange was finally granted bail in the UK yesterday, on condition that he lived at a specific address. He asked the court to keep that address secret, in case he got attacked.

I like to follow the conspiracy theory websites and draw my own conclusions from all the crazy info out there...and my best guess is that Wikileaks is a black op by somebody in order to lead public opinion down a certain path. If it leads to either draconian internet censorship or further US aggression in the Middle East, then it might become a bit more obvious who's behind it all. But who knows? Regardless, the whole thing is quite interesting to watch!

All those conspiracy theories are bogus.  They're just the work of someone trying to scare us.

Re: Sticky Wikki What.

I do love a good conspiracy myself but I'm think the drama being played out before us in public is scary enough.

Mr Assange and company have taken on the task of shaming the US and other world powers into behaving properly. I think the term he used was " to do something about the things that piss me off".

While I appreciate the sentiment and applaud some of the releases like the video of the helicopter attack on some reporters in Iraq. Some of the release from the diplomatic corps. were just to embarrass people. I also read a claim that wikileaks is holding back some material that is more embarrassing that would be released if anything happened to Julian. It's just not smart. These people are going to hit back and they hit hard. There going to make a example of him to try and put the fear God into us to dissuade anybody else from sticking their head up and speak out against the powers that be.

I hope it all end well and we are seeing the birth  of a new unbiased (well has unbiased as humanly possible) institution dedicated to getting the people what they need to make informed decisions. In a
the less desirable scenario we have a personality driven organisation that just goes after people and counties they don't like for fun and profit.

Humans are the ultimate opportunists, and if given the ultimate of tools to feed that need unhindered, you can guess what will come out of it... Good or ill, it's up to us whether or not which one we'll end up with.

Conspiracy theories are nothing more than speculation of facts/opinions that we WANT to hear to make us feel important, it's like someone who has spent too much time cataloging problems and complains constantly without offering any solution in alleviating them.

Re: Sticky Wikki What.

OK I'm coming around. Wikileaks is showing itself to be a force for good with a hand in bringing down some long time dictators that my government has supported, much to my disgust.  I mistook Mr Assange big media presence for ego  gratification. Now I understand he must keep talking to explain what he's doing, why he's doing it and why the organisation should be supported. Since Wikileaks funding comes from donations he has to continue to trumpet their accomplishments and inspire further funding. I still see the potential for some evil shit happening with this brand of journalism in the hand of bad actors but Wikileaks is proving itself to be worth of trust. Guess I better send a donation.
