Well, I guess this is as good a place to start as any. One of the most viewed and responded-to threads on the BA forum asked this simple question: How did each of us arrive at our usernames?
I realize, for many who already answered that there, the story hasn't changed -- but mine has. I was sitting at my computer, with everything else already filled out to sign up for the new site, and all I had left was to pick a name. Somewhere amid thoughts of outgrowing the elmo reference and this being the best St. Patrick's Day ever, it suddenly occured to me: ELMO WAS A SAINT!!! (It looks like I have more in common with the good Bishop than I thought ) So, I did some quick googling, and I was very pleased with what I discovered.
It turns out, among other things, Erasmus (how the early Italians turned that into "Ermo," which later became "Elmo," is beyond me) is the patron saint of sailors. For ages, a distinctive electromagnetic phenomenon has been the sign of that saint watching over voyagers as storms receded. I was blown away when I saw all the references to storms -- "Welcome to the storm," each video beginning and ending with the signature thunder -- it's just too good to be true! I couldn't have chosen a better name on purpose!
I'm pretty sure I'm not a saint. But yes, my magnificent inspirations, as you emerge from the throes of your storms, rest assured I will be watching over you.

hmm well in Porn star tradition my first pet was named Max.

Real Name : Jesse
Nickname from Jr. High School : Jester (Batman in small circles; Superman in High School, but for an entirely different story)
Email : Demonic***** (D for short)
The nickname was revamped as of 2005 as a "scooter name" for a club I belonged to. I just stick to Jester or any extension of it as a net ID for easy recognition.

Bluegrey is my real name, of course...

mine's quite boring really. I've a had a thing about Tolkein's elves ever since first reading The Lord of The rings during my hippy days in the late nineteen sixties. They were seen as the ultimate in hippydom. I use the name on all of the sites I subscribe to.

Mine is boring: It's an old (no longer active) work e-mail username, derived from my real name (I guess I probably shouldn't admit that).
As for yours, Elmo, I always assumed it meant you wanted to be tickled!

My name is self explanitory. Ok, not really.
Well, my nickname is a combination of my wife and I's Name. Since we both Both Post under it as well.
The whole Microso$t is evil thing was a accident.
And my porn name is "boo".

That means my porn name is Billy boo boo
Well I was 5 and he was my pet Corgi called Billy, and I thought at the time, it was a really clever thing to do to give him a surname.

The Bishop of Bath & Wells was a one-off character in Blackadder, my favourite comedy series ever. But I'm guessing you guys & gals in Australia and the US would never have heard of Blackadder?

Blackadder Two was the best of the four series I think Bish. And "Money", the episode where the baby eating bishop of Bath & Wells appears was the best episiode of that series for my money.

I like the one set in the reign of Queen Elisabeth the 1st, where he was put in charge of executions and they had to do 5 executions a week Monday to Friday. so they did them all on the Monday and tuesday and had the rest of the week off, but the guy who was scheduled to die on the Friday was pardoned on the Wednesday, but as he was already dead, they had to find his head and body and get them back together again so he could meet the queen who they got really drunk so she wouldn't know the difference. But then they find they've executed the wrong bloke anyway, so everthings alright.

Blackadder is in video stores here. And we certainly know Rowan Atkinson.

Permanently saved on my TiVo is "Chains", from season 2. I have it queued up to the scene where Blackadder plays charades with the prison guard. It never, ever fails to make me fall on the floor laughing. "Oh, it's a SCYTHE!"
Oh, yeah. My username. I have a very, very dear friend who used to refer to me as 'Bonny Kate'. I always liked it a lot. Usually I'm just plain Kate.

I changed my name from Uri (BA) to Kypris (IFM). Kypris is the epithet of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, beauty and sexual rapture. Her oldest temple in ancient Greece was in Kypros and Kythera, so her name Kypris.
The avatar pict shows a painting from Piero di Cosimo’s «The Death of Procris», a beautiful agony of a nymph, 1500.

Oh my word yes, I think series 3 and 4 are the best comedy half hours since Fawlty Towers. My current fave is Shameless, which is just into series 2 here, but I've heard series 3 isn't much chop. Any news on that Bish?

My word, I didn't realise that Blackadder had actually made it all the way to Australia. Very cool to think that some fellow forumers (incl Lady Li and Richard) are also fans!
My favourite series would have to be the third, especially the episode where Stephen Fry stomps around as the Duke Of Wellington. Comedy genius.
I have to confess that Shameless hasn't crossed my radar as yet, I keep meaning to check it out.

Alway series two for me Bish. Blackadder, Baldrick and Lord Percy were a great comic team and I loved Miranda Richardson as The Queen.

I just thought that on the left side, exhausted member suited me after a couple of hours on this site or BA when I first used it. The name I mean, not the member. You know what I mean, I don't.

! I wander off to make some extra money for school, and by the time I make it back, this brand new site already has over 800 posts, spread over three pages of thread topics!!! It took me another week of periodic visits just to catch up! I'd say this venture is off to a VERY good start.
As for yours, Elmo, I always assumed it meant you wanted to be tickled!
Yeah, some attention is nice, but I'm more into gentler, smooth strokes than invasive prodding. But with the newer take on "Elmo," I guess that means I like to watch? (I like the idea of being a force of nature, too... )
Happy thoughts!

Ashmedi is an obscure demon who is also known as Asmodeus in other cultures. Ashmedi is the demon of rage and lust. The rage part part does not fit, but I must admit to having felt lust once or twice.
It was also picked since no one has ever heard of him and there is never a problem anywhere with selecting a username. It's also relatively short and I hate typing more than necessary.
Ashmedi is an ancient god of rage and lust.
I don't feel rage, but the lust part fits like a glove.

I can be very blunt at times. And even though some people don't like hearing the truth, or at least my version of it, I'm not afraid of 'tellin it like it is.'
Hence the name. I just shortened it because I'm too lazy to type it all out whenever I have to log in to my favorite web sites.
