Never know whether to put these in here or youtube--this is really nice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OROAGNbsikQ  Also this nice rocker http://www.spike.com/video/animusic-pogo-sticks/2861582  More excellent stuff where that came from--just Google!

Re: Currently listening to thread

Hi IFM! These types of threads are an easy place for someone new to join the conversations, so I am jumping in:

Lately, I am revisiting some old favorites like cat power and liz phair, but keep circling back to boney m, cab calloway (that old video of his animated self singing st james infirmary blues in betty boop's 'snow white' is amazing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDATXtewPrg), blind lemon jefferson.. what else?.. seeking out music videos more and more these days; i liked Larkin Grimm's really interesting "Parplar" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybG1-k_wJpw, and really wanted to like Broken Bells "The Ghost Inside" http://www.vimeo.com/12239340 (mostly for christina hendricks) but just couldn't love it.

Re: Currently listening to thread

I reviewed Parplar when it first came out; I thought it was just OK. http://joelshitshow.com/2008/12/13/lark … m-parplar/ Still remarkable to see another who has heard of her.

Re: Currently listening to thread

Recently it's been mostly Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, Gaelic Storm, Enter the Haggis, Great Big Sea, The Young Dubliners, etc.... And since it's baseball season again I always manage to get John Fogerty's "Centerfield" or Jeff Daniels' "Lifelong Tiger Fan Blues" into my mix. Can't wait for hockey season again when I can start listening to "The Zamboni Song", "The Good Old Hockey Game" or "Hockey Monkey" without being reminded that my Wing's were denied the cup again. Although every once in awhile I'll throw on some Johnny Cash, Black Crows, Clapton, Muddy Waters or Willie Dixon for some variety.

And for some reason I've heard a lot of Tonic on the radio recently, which always reminds me of one of my exes....

Akron / Family, Flying Lotus, Atlas Sound, Joan as Policewoman, and I know I'm way late, but Amy Winehouse.  Also, I saw Grizzly Bear at the Palais.  It made me feel things.

Besnard Lakes new one is wonderful (for fans of Low)
Foxes in Fiction - Swung From The Branches - I'm in love with this... a lot like Atlas Sound but more blissed out (he apparently blogs eveyrthing he does & makes it free: http://www.foxesinfiction.com/)
Sufjan Stevens - All delighted people EP -- I am delighted.   And found out about a new album out 6 days before I see him live (perfect timing).

Re: Currently listening to thread

U2's "Bullet The Blue Sky" is currently being channeled from my iPod via my killer pair of headphones and it's got me by the throat! Heavy, bluesy, and operatic, all at the same time. Oh yeah!

Re: Currently listening to thread

I have about 20gig of new psy to listen my way through.  Nibbling on a bit of Protoculture, Overdream and Psyboriginal here and there too.

Of late I have been getting into non-electronic tunes, especially when I drove to NSW.  Florence and the Machine is good driving music, although I'm not sure I'd put it on at a party or anything.

Oh and I am getting into some Dizzy Rascal too.

Turn on.  Tune in.  Drop out.

Re: Currently listening to thread

I'm not usually one to share the music I listen to, but man am I enjoying Zoe Keating right now. She plays the cello but loops over it digitally using a foot pedal so it creates this amazing, rich, emotive layered effect. I totally dig.
