Re: Currently listening to thread

Ha ha, I like the idea that shuffle is going to set us back as a species, I'm not sure I agree but it's an attractive idea. There are some artists who are not on Itunes and probably never will be (Will Oldham comes to mind first) and I can't help but - or I like to - think they feel the same way.
At the moment I'm listening to Bright Eyes, I'm not sure if it good for my mental health but ace all the same.

Yes, Ravenbarber, I definitely still buy CDs. If an album is worth having, it's worth having on CD. Downloads are usually MP3s (much lower quality), and if you home-record a CD, its life expectancy is not indefinite.

Currently listening? Yes, like you, Muse - Resistance; great stuff. Also the new David Gray, Florence & the Machine, Bat for Lashes - it's been a good month!

You can probably pick it up pretty cheap now. I can definitely lend you the CD though. I used to have a copy that I stole from my mum (yes, my mum is pretty damn cool), but I don't know where that's got to so I borrowed a copy from my partner's brother. It's all scratched up, but I kinda think that adds to some of the atmosphere.

Certainly know a lot about those. I used to send my ex-girlfriend to sell my stuff, 'cause she's cute and charismatic and could get a better price.

Good to know that someone out there still feels the way I do. "The album" must survive, otherwise 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band' was all for naught.

Currently got Deerhunter's 'Nothing Ever Happened' and Grizzly Bear's 'Knife' on repeat play. I got them off a torrent for Pitchfork's Top 200 Songs of the Decade list. The Deerhunter song in particular is just a marvel, hypnotic, druggy, with a killer bass hook and a kind of dirgy, yet thumping progression. It also has that lovely voice manipulation that I love so very much. I have come to love groups that regard the singer's voice as another instrument to play with. The Knife is very good at that, creating that voice that speaks as if from a deep, dark dream, something you might hear kicking around in your head in total darkness.

I wish I could email interested folks the MP3, but the filesize is about 10mb, cause the song is almost six minutes long. Try and scour the internet to find it. I might want to buy the album, actually.

Safe

Re: Currently listening to thread

There's a very interesting, informative article on Pitchfork.com about indie music and its effects and influences on this decade.

For anyone even remotely interested in so-called "indie" music, it is a terrific read.

Here's the link:
http://pitchfork.com/features/articles/ … -in-indie/

Oh, I recommend that everyone who visits this thread play Bob Dylan's 'Tombstone Blues' immediately. Your day will be changed.
"The ghost of Belle Starr she hands down her wits/To Jezebel the nun she violently knits/A bald wig for Jack the Ripper who sits/At the head of the chamber of commerce."
Sheer fucking genius.

Bach's "Air on a G string" This link is a partial--sought for a decent recording but this is vastly superior to anything else I could find. http://ya-ya-ya.com/movie/DEEP.wmv

Good Mashup channel, I love mashups, Thin Lizzy is my favourate, it really gives his voice some new space to be heard, the Sex pistol one is good too, so is the comodores. http://www.youtube.com/user/markv1967#p/u/1/IdYoyzxOEJI

Re: Currently listening to thread

I'm pretty old school and my tastes, though eclectic, are pretty . . . predictable.  I can never get enough Neil Young, Beatles, Little Feat, Blood Sweat and Tears, Buffalo Springfield, CSN & Sometimes Y, Dire Straights . . . and the list goes on.  I have found so little that is new to embrace . . . the whole "Hip Hop" kind of beat turns me off and I have never been into anything hard, which is odd because I do very much like Audio Slaves first album.
