This video is ages old, well the audio is. I saw it again on a blog and it got me thinking. It's not just a negative expletive it has a lot of different uses.

Oh The Wire, I love love love that show. I'm in another country by myself at the moment and it (and a book about memory) are pretty much my only friends (Gala said this is okay so I'm not ashamed). I've done the first 4 seasons and I'm eagerly awaiting the fifth from Amazon so if anyone would like to talk to me about it I'd be happy to tell you that currently Avon Barksdale and Stringer Bell dominate my masturbation fantasies. Is that fucked up? Don't worry, in my fantasies they're far to busy having sex with me to be killing people.
I'd also be happy to talk about all the intellegent stuff too.

I agree with the people who say that The Wire is maybe the best TV series ever. I was so surprised to find out that McNulty and Stringer Bell are actually played by Brit actors (Dominic West was at Eton with David Cameron).

Series 5 is great and there's a really good final episode for you to look forward to. You should also look out for Generation Kill, made by the same team of David Simon and Ed Burns.

We had to roll back and double check it and thought 'where are they going to go with this?'. But it was just a throw away shot. I think it does help to explain his character a bit and it's interesting to watch him again with the knowledge he's gay. I imagine a gay guy would have to act tough and ruthless in a macho environment like the Baltimore PD.

You could be right and the character is overdoing the macho to warn off any homophobia but I tend to think the TV show is probably presenting a queer character who is macho and ruthless. Being gay doesn't preclude someone from being naturally macho and ruthless, the risk of getting your cherry popped in jail I think can tell us that :)  I've known a gay guy for a long time who could fit a popular stereotype, but most of his partners wouldn't and if they hadn't been with him I wouldn't have known they were gay at all. I'm not gay so like most people my gaydar is rubbish really. Men who are both intelligent and really cute have the best gaydar :)

In fact one of the most macho and ruthless characters in the show is gay. One of the things I really liked about The Wire is that even though the characters do sort of sit in the space of the cops and drug dealing stereotypes it really puts a lot of effort into investigating those stereotypes. I'd call them well rounded, complicated, even deep stereotypes!

I picked McNaulty's character as being British when he put on that accent in the second series, it was a bit of silly and unnecessary deviation from an otherwise excellent script. I thought it possibly an in joke or something. I have to say the actor that plays Stringer does a mighty fine job of a very sexy Baltimore drawl.   

Ngaio I highly recommend you check it out, this and Deadwood are the only T.V drama's I've really loved (well Boston Legal too, but only the first season and probably only because of James Spader). Barack Obama recommends it too, apparently according to wikipedia it's his favorite show and his favorite character being the a fore mentioned gay gangster.

Deadwood is new to me, I see it scores 9.3 on IMDB. I'll definitely check that out, thanks. I see it has another Brit actor (Ian McShane).

ZOMG Deadwood is about my favouritist show in the whole wide world.  I was remniscing about it the other day.  Cocksucker Motherfucker......
