Spokesman John Morrissey said children visiting the stores should not be exposed to sex products.
"There's only one use for them and that's not a habit we want to encourage in teenage girls," he said.
"If these products belong anywhere it's in an adult sex shop that people don't want to be seen entering."
God forbid girls actually ENJOY themselves in a safe, consensual environment.
I became sexually active when I was 16, yet it wasn't until much later, when I was old enough and brave enough to go into a sex store and get myself a vibrator, that I learnt to orgasm. So that kind of attitude really pisses me off.
Priceline's vibrators don't sound like anything great but still I say kudos to them! I hope they set an example and someday soon we can buy vibrators even at the supermarket!

Yeah I think selling a range of vibrators along side condoms in supermarkets is a good idea.
As to the reason why children are kept away from anything sexual.
Parents are understandably anxious and really hope their kids don't produce a baby until they've perhaps studied and seen something of life and if possible choose when they want to have a baby. Some think the way to do that is not fill their heads with "that sort of thing" at a young age :) My own life observations say the opposite to that is true. Positive and rounded sex education empowers us and also affords us the kind of respect we can show to other people.
Sex is the only area where a lack of information and understanding is seen as a virtue. Imagine if we took that approach to driving a car, wouldn't that be extremely dangerous!!!!?
Thats my soapbox for today :) ha ha

Yeah, I've read about SO many studies that have proven that a good sex education WORKS in lowering STD rates, teen pregnancies, all of that.
And of course nobody ever gets pregnant from a dildo. Well, not as far as I know.

Unless you've just been using it to stir a cake mix from the semen cookbook.

Parents just don't want their kids to have sex fullstop, so they withhold ALL information and tell them to 'say no'. Its absolute bollocks! Knowledge is power, we should be giving everyone the tools to make important decisions about their lives.
My folks ridiculously sheltered me and as a result I found some things out the hard way - that sucks when you're a 15 year old female in the burbs. When I have children (heaven forbid) I am adamant to lead by example on having healthy sexual attitudes, I will answer all their questions honestly, openly and unflinchingly - and my bookshelves are already full of literature on sex, theres also so many great resources on the intertubes as well.
I actually have a 5 year old neice whom I am 100% open with, sex hasn't come up much but as she develops I am prepared to talk to her about anything. I'm trying my hardest to show her and teach her good body image and self confidence so by the time sex stuff does come up she already feels good about herself and has the smarts that I just didn't as a kid.
Sex counselling, sex toys, sex advice and information on sex should be a staple part of healthcare and the education system - its so freaking important - everyone bloody does it, yet as an issue its mostly politely side-stepped or in this instance completely shunned in the guise of 'protecting children'.

Hyperballad it's a very rantable subject isn't it.

Adele, you are so awesome that it hurts.
Hyperballad, you are also so awesome that it hurts! I have very similar views and aspirations to you in regards to teaching my (potential, in theory, maybe when I'm 40) kids healthy, positive attitudes to sex and more than just the basics of contraceptive - I will talk to them about masturbation, pleasure, all of that. Whether they want me to or not!

Thanks ngaio, you're awesome too. Maybe we should start a club for awesome ladies just like the girl guides but obviously way more awesome. And we have the recipes now to make our very own *special* cookies... that's when the boy scouts come in handy.

I find it surprising that the internets hasn't asploded from our combined awesomeness yet.
