I hate playing God

I just returned home after taking Nytro, my beautiful white cat, to the vet. Last week he was diagnosed with a large inoperable tumor on his right jaw, he was hardly eating, and had dropped to about 10 pounds from his normal weight of about 15 pounds. I had brought him home again last week so that my wife could say goodbye.

I stayed with Nytro till the end, I owed him a friendly face and touch, and I came home with a very heavy heart. I have given all our short furry friends their 15 seconds of fame on the web.

If anyone is interested they can see Nytro's Photo Album here
http://community.webshots.com/myphotos? … HLTucWqckA

and a Short Bio for Nytro on my webpage here.
http://ca.geocities.com/dreamwerxx@roge … ts-00.html

I will now have to update his webpage and the webshots album to indicate that Nytro is now at the Rainbow Bridge waiting for Sharm and Barb. I am having trouble seeing thru the sadness.  sad

My sympathy ashmedi.  One of my cats (Tasha) died about a month ago so I know how you feel.  Nytro was obviously a very happy, contented cat and you should comfort yourself with that mate.

Re: I hate playing God

I've been there. Lost one I'd had for something like 17 years... pure old age but the going was not a comfortable one (partly my fault for not standing up to the vet -- I'm new at this). It really hurt for a long time, and still does at unexpected moments. I've lost people that gave me less of a pang than that cat.

Same here. A couple of years ago we had 3 go. Two older cats passed and one younger one left home and never came back. It's strange how much it can hurt. I was comforted knowing that the older cats were 19 1/2 and 17, respectively. Good long lives.

Sorry, Ashmedi. I'm sure you did what was best for Nytro.

Re: I hate playing God

I'm currently owned by four pure-bred Abyssinians, ages ranging 12-14, so I'm hoping not to go through that for a few years yet. They are all spayed females, but not declawed (I hate the idea). They live exclusively indoors.

I can understand why you call 8 pounds tiny (in comparison to 20 pounds, it is!), but none of my girls is over 8 pounds. One is about 6 pounds, sleek and slender. She's not unhealthy; she is fast, strong, and jumps like a kitten (despite being 14). They are quite social, and seek out visitors. They get along well, often sleeping two to a cushion.

I like your website; I must get around to doing something similar.

Lovely cats Jakeview and msn.  You'll have to wait until tomorrow to see one of my cats though.

Yes they are cute as Elfman says.

Rather than uploading my images somewhere where they can be linked, the First six albums in Webshots are of my most recent cats and thank god for digital cameras.

Re: I hate playing God

So sorry to hear about Nytro, ashmedi. Sounds like he was splendid, much-loved, happy cat. May The Great Kitty Beyond be lined with bacon and catnip.

I lost my childhood cat about five years ago, and my absolute devastation was quite shocking. I was completely, utterly gutted. It sounds somewhat cheesy and saccharine, but for someone who has never had kids, and who has no intention of doing so, he was the closest thing to a child to me - only cats seem to evoke my maternal instincts. I have a wonderful kitten now, and he's absolutely awesome (if pathologically manic and hyperactive), but I never got over - and I doubt I ever will - that lovely, lovely, enormously fat, strangely sagacious cat who licked the tears off my face when I was miserable, sat on my lap while I was on the dunny, and head-butted me continuously ("love-butts", I called them).

“No, but it sounded good. I like those two p’s.
The alliteration.”

I know how you felt. Keep the memories Lia, I have never met an animal yet that didn't have its own unique personality and character. I don't think there is any such thing as a "dumb animal" wink

Re: I hate playing God

Yeah my parents have always had dogs and it has always amazed me that as soon as you just think about taking them for a walk, they get excited. I think your sweat must smell different as your body chemicals prepare you for going outside. Because they can smell if your afraid or if your lying.
Anyway, I haven't got a pet, but I think when they bring one out with a head, I'll getting one of these smile

Hey Ashmedi sorry to hear about Nytro. Animal lovers are always among the bestest people around so the fact that you (and everyone else on this thread) are so upset makes you a rockin guy! xox
