Say It Ain't So!

I was just reading my favorite godless liberal science blog, Pharyngula, and I happened across this link, which made my blood run cold. I know this measure is ostensibly aimed at child pornography, but I'm all too aware of how censorship tends to overreach, and I'd hate to see my favorite Aussie sites (i.e., yours) taken down by a ham-handed approach to this stuff. Please tell me this is no threat to you.

On a related note, is it legal for foreigners to donate to Aussie political parties?

Re: Say It Ain't So!

As far as I know it just effects web users in Australia (not someone producing content and hosting it abroad as with IFM) so that like China they'll have certain sites blocked. I don't think it'll stop people downloading child porn, they have enough motivation to circumvent the filters as people have in China.

When Ozzy politicians are trying to solve problems, compulsion, when they feel it's an easy and affective solution seems to be an accepted option of popular culture and so it's compulsory to vote or to wear a bicycle helmet etc etc.

Re: Say It Ain't So!

As we are not hosted in Australia, such filters would not affect our sites, however it might make them difficult to run.  I woudl be surprised if they succeeded in implementing broad based filtering to such an extent though.

I don't know what the legal restrictions are but I would encourage anyone who supports us to donate to the Australian Sex Party, they can potentially do a great deal not just for our cultural freedom but other important sex related issues such as education and rights for sex workers.  And if you're Australian, JOIN the party.

Re: Say It Ain't So!

Could someone enlighten an ignorant Yank about  the origin of the term "wowserism" or "wowser"??

There is an article in wikipedia about that word that explains its history from 1900 to present, but it seems it existed as a slang term prior to that???

Were there "wowsers" existing in some organized group or sect in Australia in the 19th century??? Does it have some long forgotten British origin??

Re: Say It Ain't So!

The link doesn't work sometimes, so Here's my post:

blissed wrote:

I don't work for any Australian porn sites but I have friends who've contributed to them and I help moderate a forum I love for a Feck site, so I have a fairly broad experience of Australian porn sites which is in some places quite a bit more than an inch deep.
No organization is perfect, as I see it the problems are usually similar to the clashes of personalities and disagreements you'd find working for a music label or creative publisher. Most people I know who've worked for both AW and Feck have loved it, both the money and much of the attention they get from "fans" but feel a certain amount of social pressure to be ashamed when in fact female sexuality is beautiful, and I personally feel sexual images and the people in them should be respected with the same adult social acceptance level as any beauty contest, if not simply just for the people being brave and giving us pleasure.

The problem with porn is the attitude of many people who view it, and the misconception is that those people form the entire market. Thats not true, and the Australian sites mentioned have realized this and thats contributed quite a lot to their success . So this is what I see as the real problem with porn.

People have 2 minds, we have a conscious mind and a libido and the 2 can conflict.
Androsexuals both men and women appreciate the beauty of men and
Gynosexuals both men and women appreciate the beauty of women. Where the male libido celebrates it's dominance over women there is a problem tho. Where that dominance is contained between consenting adults within the "game" of sex it contributes to peoples enjoyment, but when it isn't contained and men seek to dominate women without their consent you have misogyny, wether it's forcing or pressuring them to be sexually available or telling women how "modest" or not they should be. Being in control of your libido is the side to being a gentleman thats definitely worth keeping and helps women empower themselves so their proud and comfortable as sexual beings.
