Women and a Sole Philosophy of the Self

I just was wondering what other lovely ifm lasses and lads thought of the below statement...

Joan Jacobs Brumberg lamentably concluded at the end of her book Fasting Girls: The Emergence of Anorexia Nervosa as a Modern Disease, "Sadly, the cult of diet and exercise is the closest thing our secular society offers women in terms of a coherent philosophy of the self".

Re: Women and a Sole Philosophy of the Self

I think the internet can be an antidote for that, I've got rid of my TV and I only read a few mags that are left in the rest room at work. Old media try's to tell you what to think about and kind of corals your perceptions, ( Steve Corbett can tell you all about that :) thats why it's supported so strongly by advertisers, but on the net you can follow your own agenda and over time that can develop a new perception of the world and your place in it, but your developing in response to your own agenda which is lovely.    or not, if your kind of mentally disturbed :)

Anyway, old media can leave you feeling inadequate, but the net can show you human diversity of both appearance and ideas.
