Dauphinb2, What you stated has good merit. I do agree that a bit of soul searching would be good for my country. (As is any other country as well.)
...
And yes, I have always liked your debate style dauphinb2, and yes, You are right. Now that I reread Max's post, I see what you are stating. And I thank you for calling me on it.
Cool. Since you've identified yourself as a libertarian, you and I would probably disagree about politics far more often than we would agree... and yet, it seems, we can still talk to each other civilly and usefully. I think that's great. Thank you.

Wow, I missed this thread!! It ended before I first joined. One of the most civil discussions I have ever seen on this issue (with some minor exceptions). Blissed and Nihpuad, you rock. The concept of "Why are the radicals able to recruit?" is virtually unmentioned in ANY media here(US), right or left.
As for Gonzales - "It's not torture if you don't lose an organ or die" - how could anything else be a surprise? Please let me apply this stun gun to your gonads. How long before he'd decide that was torture? (Might backfire, could be that's how he masturbates)
How come nobody ever mentioned PNAC?

Well, since it's come up again, here's what I did to "celebrate" the 4th anniversary of the start of this $@#^&$ war:

Right after he says the third "lets roll" in that brilliantly edited clip, the camera focuses on two Representatives of the House, one man, and one woman (in a purple jacket with glasses), who do not look too amused. I'm proud to say that the woman, Rep. Louise Slaughter (Democrat, Fairport, NY ie. Buffalo & Rochester) represents my district in Congress. She's one of our jackass President's biggest critics, and not to be trifled with

The only good bush is the one between a woman's legs.
Whens the impeachment? I'll vote YES.
The guy is making all of us Americans look like a bunch of idiots. So frustrating.
I was looking at a poster of all the past US Presidents the other day (I was at the post office or something somewhere) and they showed Washington, Lincoln, Regan...all these great leaders...and then in the middle was dumbass bush. He doesn't even fit in with the rest. Looks like Alfred E Numan from MAD magazine.
Tell you what? Here's a challange. $1,000 reward in cash to anyone that can email me a pic of that guy looking intellegent. Just one. Do that and I'll shut up and pony up the dough.
Just a surfer guy on a small tropical island with very few babes! Glad to be here!

Reagan?! Great leader?? Isn't he ultimately responsible for this mess, ushering in America's "New Conservatism" of the 1980's? Inspiring Newt Gingrich and his right-wing cronies to present the "Contract With America" debacle of 1994? Please...the Soviet Union was gonna' fall anyway. Reagan isn't the one who inspired Yeltsin to climb up on that tank. Gimme a break...Earth to America- The Gipper is dead.
Actually, now that I think about it, Reagan doesn't look too shabby compared to W.
Here's a great impression of the American people during the last two presidential elections.

Kirejos, you took the words right out of my mouth--ranking our presidents, I'd certainly place Reagan near the bottom of the list.

Jerry Falwell died today. He was the founder of the "Moral Majority"... effectively he invented the American religious Right as we know it today. His vision of evangelical Christianity dominating the public square led directly to what we see in W and his minions today. I never like to speak ill of the dead, but the world is clearly a better place without Rev. Falwell.
Here's some reaction from the Connecticut political blog I read regularly. Be sure to check out the WKRP in Cincinnati clip posted in the comments.

The funniest thing was that the family announced there would be an "eternal flame" at his grave. I'm not sure these fundamentalists really understand their own iconography!

Bush is a lame duck, now Falwell's a dead duck, maybe all this indicates a trend for the better, maybe the tide has shifted. Since the November election, it feels like it has here in the Pacific Northwest.

I should hang out in this thread more often. Americans (including myself) are a strange breed to me now that I'm one of the only ones in my immediate circle of contact.
This is precisely why, when people in Australia discover that I am from the U.S., I usually just say: 'I'm sorry':

I don't usually do this, but I had forgotten who gets on TV in America, and it was a bit of a shock. Sick, dude.

When I hear some right winger say "It's time to stand up America....." I always start to get very scared.

To get back to the original thread...you don't need a mash-up to hear Bush sounding weird. There are enough messed-up things he's said on various web sites to keep anyone in stitches for a long time.

Actually if your American and by a terrible twist of fate another dorky republican president gets elected, I have heard the Uk Government will grant you asylum in Britain, or Australia.
We can send you off to Australia because we still own it.
