Catch up/Check in

Hello loves, just thought I'd check in to see how you've been of late. What's it like where you are? How are your sweet headbrains doing at the moment? What have you been watching/playing/listening to lately? Tell me the things please! (If you feel like it).

We've been back in the orifice for a couple weeks now and while it took a little bit to get used to wearing trousers and bras again, it's been great seeing the flippin lovely faces of all the Feck HQ babes again. I actually missed those darlinghearts quite a lot. Melbourne is coming out of lockdown gradually and our double vaccination numbers are great, but I still feel somewhat anxious about being out and about when there's still so many cases kicking about. Considering it's November and would normally be getting pretty warm this time of year in Melbourne, instead we've had a bonkers amount of rain and chilly days, which this lil' ginge absolutely loves.

As for other things, I've been watching an obscene amount of horror movies lately. Till Death, Ready or Not, Haunt, and the Fear Street series are some that stood out and were quite enjoyable. I've also gone back to Animal Crossing New Horizons, as they added an update to trick us all into playing it again and I'm ashamed to say that it worked.

I saw my Mum the other day and it was awesome. She's the one who gave me my dog and seeing them together was a really nice antidote to all this lockdown isolation. We watched David Attenborough docos for hours and smoked and chatted until 4am.

Sorry, none of this is very interesting haha. I just wanted to check in and catch up some, so please reply if you feel the urge at all .

I don't know if you only hoped for replies from you friends and colleges, but I felt bad to see you've got no response in three days. Do you have any interest in how things are up north where the air gets cold this time of year and how I'm dealing? Can't promise anything super intriguing, but I could probably come up for recent watching/practicing pastimes at least.

And yes, I'm especially interested in posts from the northern hemisphere people! I've never been anywhere except Australia and New Zealand so hearing about them crazy places up north is always interesting to me. I just like hearing about people and places and stuff and things in general, so hook a sister up if you feel so inclined.

Its pretty rough in the antipodes, we all walk around on our heads and if we try to cross the deadly heat of the equator at sea level we die and become undead preying on passing container ships.  That is why people from places like Japan or England have to fly into Australia.  The flights take so long because we have to adjust to standing on our feet gradually like astronauts returning to Earth.

Life is really not very exciting since I have not been able to do anything indoors with people outside my household since the middle of last year due to the pandemic (and I had no income until October 2021) and since I know less than ten people in my current city outside of work.  I started a new job in a shop so at least I talk to people I am not related to there.  There have been heat waves and fires and floods and wind storms and shipwrecks but not at the place I am living.  I raked all the leaves.  I got vaccinated against COVID but with Delta that does not really make me safe just safer especially since I am now working in the shop.  My next book (on a topic in costume history) is almost done.  I have been watching 30-60 minutes of British mysteries such as Midsommer and Vera a night (also that New Zealand mystery show whose name I forget).

Haha think of this more of an empathy reply. The thing is I've tried starting discussions several times and WAS anticipating replies. So for an actually local employee to get ignored left me projecting a little I guess.

This has actually been one of the warmer autumns we've had in the midwest. Last year it was already snowing heavily in mid-October. It's funny given this year is also the 30th anniversary of Minnesota's Halloween Blizzard of 1991. The one were as kids we went out for candy at night in thick slush.

I've been binged watching a lot of show. Recently finished Season 2 of Locke & Key with my Mom. October I tried to fit in as many scary movies and spooky special as possibly. Now I'm moving more on to magical heart filled holiday corn. LOL
Never can seem to fit in enough. So each year I try to watch a few scary things in May and Christmas things in July just to get six month ahead.

I'm actually very curious about how things are in other parts of the world as well. As I've only had travels within the USA and for a brief time western Canada.

That's great news about your book though! Is there a specific era that it focuses on, or just all of noted history? Also is the New Zealand show you're thinking of Top of the Lake by any chance? If not, I recommend Top of the Lake. The first season at least is good, I've not seen the second one.

Do you shop online much? I found Etsy became something of a habit when I was yearning for physical items of things that I loved (I bought a Rosemary's Baby tannis root necklace, a Til Tuesday vinyl, Nordic socks, a pink t-shirt with fried eggs on the titties...all very worthwhile purchases). It feels a bit gross being another cog in the online consumer machine, but these things brought immense joy and continue to do so, soooo..... *shrug*

As an Australian, blizzards are such an odd concept to me haha. I love the dedication of you kids still going out in a blizzard for all that sweet sweet candaaay! I'm glad the weather is a bit more mild for you this year though.

What holiday corn do you like? Is Hallmark TOO corny? I personally rather enjoy the ultra shitty, but weirdly enjoyable ones like A Christmas Prince. But then I love watching the actually good ones like Home Alone and Die Hard. I don't know if you watch youtube much, but there's a non binary youtuber called Nick DiRamio who does some really entertaining videos about Hallmark movies (plus Disney Channel and PureFlix). This is a recent one I really liked. Nick is extremely witty and snarky but in a way that's not obnoxious or mean.

Yes, I live in an old house from the 1900s and I keep it "in its own juice" with its wood stove in the living room, the wood stove also in the kitchen and old sinks whose taps sometimes leak!
This sweet dog is a mix of Yorksheare terrier and poodle, I think he really enjoys digging holes in the garden! He is absolutely adorable with an always happy mood. It's nice that you have a dog too !!

I recently did a really deep dive into my family's history (Mum was born in Australia but Gran was from the UK), and I loved finding out more about the place. Our brood started in Coylton in Scotland, hung around there for a couple hundred years, then were based in Yorkshire for ages, then in the 1800's made it to London when they had a wee bit of money (although living in Victorian era London sounds like actual hell).

Please excuse the late respond. It's been a busy week with Thanksgiving and me working on Black Friday. If you know anything about American shopping on THAT day than you can guess why I've been worn down a bit.

I've rarely watched a Hallmark movie from beginning to end, but I can defiantly find amusement in something that rather stupid, but begin. Though I'd probably lean more towards the weird animated fantasies like the He-Man and She-Ra Christmas special. More often though I am looking for of quality be it older classics like Miracle on 34th Street and modern favorites like Arthur Christmas.

I did come across Nick DiRamio once before. When I found they used a snarky thumbnail calling Halloween Town II a crime against cinema or something. Which I thought was the BEST of the Halloween Town series and I even liked the later ones, while I'm not really confident about checking them out anytime soon. If it's not obnoxious or mean like you say then maybe some of the other entires. I don't know.

I would recommend Locke & Key if you like creepy yet fun fantasy/mysteries. If you can keep up the many twists and turns. Might be a food idea can look up the graphic novel source material online just to be recall all the magic plot devices in key form.

A few years ago I got some cute bookplate stickers on Etsy.  I have been trying out more art supplies now that I have a bit of money, its just hard to be creative because I am sick. 

Most people here are pretty good about COVID safety but sometimes people take off their masks on the bus or roll them down under their noses in shops.  The white N-95 painter's masks are suddenly getting more popular, I don't know how many people have quietly sourced the masks with vents.  And we have our anti-vaxers and anti-maskers.

I'd love to talk about the book but it could 'unmask' me!  Lets say a period before 1914 and after 1000?

Excellent news on the keyboard too! I had one ages ago because I thought it silly that I could read sheet music (from my posh choir days) but couldn't really play anything because my dumb hands are bad at coordinating with each other. Have you played for long? Or are you just messing about?

Ah yes, super fair about not talking about the book too much. That's extremely great news though, I'm so happy for you! And I've never heard of that TV show weirdly! And it has 7 seasons!?! Very exciting! I've been watching Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries lately and absolutely love it, especially because it does a really lovely job of showing off some of Melbourne's most beautiful Victorian era and art deco buildings. I've seen so many familiar places, I really do love this town.

Hi, RedBird! I too have recaught the Animal Crossing bug. I redid a part of my island to include a fun little farm, and I've been collecting as many Gyroids as I can get my hands on. And I've been putting in work to finally fill out my museum (plus it gives me an excuse to get a cup of coffee from Brewster every day). What fun stuff have you been doing with your island?

My divorce became final on Monday so I'm perfectly fine with outing myself as an author. I'm really proud of my book, which is still selling after all these years. It's about how to make your own regulation obstacles so you can do agility with your dog.

The first thing I did when I moved out was to adopt a rescue dog, Honey. She is a great companion and I have high hopes that she will become a great agility partner. My last human partner was not really very good about dogs and I have had this huge hole in my life that I can now fill.

I'm also not keen on going back to the huge house which I used to live in (and still own). I didn't want to give it up, but I didn't want to live in it. I was not really keen on being a landlord, either, so basically I just can't be made happy. :-D

The universe presented me with an ideal solution. Our area is opening up to 150 Congolese and Afghan refugee families and one of them is moving into my house. The family is headed by a single Congolese mother with 8 children and two nieces so the house I didn't want to live in alone will now have a family of 11 and be filled with love and children's laughter, which makes me happy beyond measure given how much sadness used to be there.

Oh nice!! I've done much the same (getting gyroids and making a farm area). Because my island is Doctor Who themed I've been trying to make the theme more obvious, as before that the "theme" was mainly just relegated to inside my house. I also had way too many flowers everywhere so I cleared a whoooooooooole bunch of them and have put down more paths. I really love that you can now cook in the game too, and look forward to whenever I get a new recipe. Did you celebrate Turkey Day in the game? It's probably my favourite in-game holiday (ooh actually maybe Halloween is?).

How much further have you got to go in the museum? I've only got a couple bugs and fish I still need to get but the fossils are done, and now that you can get art from Redd on Harv's island I think I'll finish the art a lot sooner than normal. Very exciting!!

I'm also not keen on going back to the huge house which I used to live in (and still own). I didn't want to give it up, but I didn't want to live in it. I was not really keen on being a landlord, either, so basically I just can't be made happy. :-D

The universe presented me with an ideal solution. Our area is opening up to 150 Congolese and Afghan refugee families and one of them is moving into my house. The family is headed by a single Congolese mother with 8 children and two nieces so the house I didn't want to live in alone will now have a family of 11 and be filled with love and children's laughter, which makes me happy beyond measure given how much sadness used to be there.

Oh, I shared housing with some refugees when I was living in Europe too!

Some of the local dog parks had obstacles for the dogs to run around and jump over.

My divorce became final on Monday so I'm perfectly fine with outing myself as an author. I'm really proud of my book, which is still selling after all these years. It's about how to make your own regulation obstacles so you can do agility with your dog.

The first thing I did when I moved out was to adopt a rescue dog, Honey. She is a great companion and I have high hopes that she will become a great agility partner. My last human partner was not really very good about dogs and I have had this huge hole in my life that I can now fill.

I have always had two in the past, but that was when I was living in a house with a yard and a supportive spouse in my first marriage. Now I am in a 65 sq m one-bedroom third-floor apartment and share my twin XL bed with Honey. It would be a lot more work with two, as much fun as it would be. Referring to upthread, this area has blizzards in the winter and walking TWO dogs in a blizzard is a lot less fun that the not-fun experience of walking one. (It's so much better when you can just open the back door and watch them poop whilst holding a mug of hot coffee.)
