Oh yes!
Here's one of favorites my from the 1955 Alfred Hitchcock romantic thriller To Catch a Thief. The dialogue sets up most of the important plot points, but in case you're not familiar here's the basic set up. Cary Grant is retired cat burglary in the French Rivera trying to find out whose behind some resent jewel thefts that put him under suspicion. Grace Kelly is the daughter of wealthy widow whose family jewels are perfect target for trapping the real thief, but her hots for him complicate his plans.
Several things worth noticing: Her repeated reference to the family jewel she temps him with. The way her face vanishes behind a shadow around the one minute mark with her necklace and her cleavage in focus. His statement that the only words I'd have to describe your crazy plans are censorable. Right before she's punched on the couch and tells him despite his supposed this interest I know where eyes are really looking. And of course his slipping his hand under the necklace before the line about what's not imitation before the final blowout.
So did anyone actually watch this? Does anyone have any thoughts?
I was getting good and fast feedback for my first two uploads. I was prepared for someone to like it, not like it, see why other may find it hot even if they don't, but I wasn't prepared for nothing. There are some other scenes I'd like to link or name drop, but only if it seems like someones really interested.

Oh you're very sweet. It's been Thanksgiving weekend and I had to work Black Friday so I get how that is.
Just wish I could figure out to post emojis.

I definitely find it hot, wow, and that shot where her face is obscured is so artistic and special. She is so forward! Almost pushy, really. I love the line, "some nights you don't need a drink". The conflation of diamonds and sex is hot and poetic to me. Definitely a swoon-worthy scene.
Happy thanksgiving! We had a big thanksgiving picnic potluck in the park on Sunday, I did a turkey that came out so good, was very proud You can take the girl out of America....
Emoji - you should be able to just make smilies and they will change themselves! : ) and : (, but without the space.

Oh she is forward. In an earlier scene she brings out a turkey sandwich for a picnic and asks "Would like a leg or a breast."
Hitchcock was well known for casting hot blondes in his films, but supposedly the actress he enjoyed working him the most was Ingrid Bergman, a brunette.
She also had a hot scene with Cary Grant in one of the best known Hitch pics Notorious (1946). This was supposedly the longest kissing scene up till that time. With strategically timed dialogue and movement to get around the Productions Code three second kiss rule.
The sound in this clips not great (doesn't help that they're speaking in whispers). Basic setup: Ingrid's a women with a wild reputation whose roped into a spy deal be Cary's special agent. They've just arrived in South America to get an assignment on some hidden Nazi group and she's mostly in due to her hot for him. Not knowing she'll eventually be assigned to do some...well I think we call it honey potting know and that makes things complicated.

that one is quite sexy yeah.. especially when hes on the phone and her face is close to his ear, whispering. So interesting how the chaste kisses build into something smoldering (in me).. the first few I dont find so sexy, but by the time theyre at the phone it's quite hot.
However is it like a thing, that the girls are hot for the men and the men dont seem to show desire?

Do you mean like as she tries to show desire and he doesn't seem to reciprocate that only makes you want him more?
Offline
not exactly, I just mean in the two examples it was heavy on the "girl wants him, hes stoic and seems uninterested" vibe. In both it seems he "wants to succumb" - maybe? in the second example he says he loves her and actions speak louder than words... but does he really?
in both its very clear the motivations, the mood, the desires of the female character. But the male characters feelings, inner thoughts, and desires are extremely unclear to me.
Offline
That's very interesting. While it's certainly easier to know the male characters motives if you watch the whole movie (both of them), it's certainly true that women are more outwardly expressive and sensual. It's also worth noting that in both cases the characters will have competing agendas over the course of the stories.
A key element in the Film Noir of the 40s/50s is the clash between personal desire and larger life goals. Frequently male leads were depicted going on missions were a women leads them along who is usually proved to be untrust worthy. Sometimes this seemed to reinforce a traditional world view with the wrong kind of woman being defeated or reformed (in commitment to the leading man).
Other times the view of more socially critical. Suggesting the people of both sexes turned to crime or unhealthy relationship because society has failed them in some way or they were just following the example of other shady people who were better at getting away with it. In that case, both self made man and desperate women would go down in different ways. Sex and pre-marital relationships were almost incidental. See for example Billy Wilders Double Indemnity and Sunset Boulevard. This more liberal view might have maid it easier to criticize the national way of life without being called a communist by way of dramatic irony.

PHEW. Sorry if I got to dense there. This is just a passion of mine and I guess you kind of inspired me. Getting back to your originally question though, I think you're probably right in that was often consider UNMANLY at the time for a man to show desire unless he was somehow in control. Possibly to the point of using rough foreplay that would often be call assault today. Gone With the Wind being one of the more obvious examples. A women could get be expected to express longing because they're "emotional." A man with other things on his mind who gave in easily might be consider less of a man.
Or like the Devlin character in Notorious they just have a problem with women and commitment. Especially to a women whose willing to sleep with other man just to please him. As Groucho Marx put it, I don't want to belong to any club that would have me as member.
Offline
no worries! not dense at all. it's fascinating. I'm a bit obsessed with masculinity, male archetypes and fictional/sociological concepts of masculine motivations so this is right up my alley. Were there many examples back then of men being sort of "horndogs" the way they're often portrayd now?
maybe everyone in media is more horn doggy now actually. qirls are more often portrayed as having high desire too.
Offline
Sometimes. Men tended to be portrayed as either silly, obnoxious, or sinister if they were randy. The used to call such men wolves. In Abbott and Castello Meet Frankenstein when Lyle Talbot (replay his character from the horror classic The Wolf Man) says that when the moon comes I'll turn into a wolf Costello's typically clueless character replays "You and 20 million other guys!"
Lines like that suggest how it's typically been taken for granted that men will be horny but for a women it was unusually and therefore the use of famine wiles was a dangerous sign. Depictions of what we'd now call an ethical slut or good bad girl were rare. When they did show up more often they two were played for humor. As evident by Ado Annie in Oklahoma who sings "I'm just a girl who can't say no."
So yes, I'd say it' much more common for anyone in media admitting to desire now.

Just to show I'm not all about being cerebral and classy when it comes to sex on screen Viva, I want you to know that I liked some of the more explicit movies you listed as favorite.
Yu Tu Mamma Tambien I've seen several times. While the whole movies is very well done and captures I wind range of emotions, my favorite sex scene is one of the silliest. When he's girlfriend calls up to her bedroom to help find the passport and tells him to close the door. He knows her folks are waiting and asks about the passport. Without missing a beat she just puts down her camera and says as she takes down her sweat pants and undies, "It's right here." And as they flop down for a quickie that ends with her tossing his ass off the bed and getting her pants back on just in time avoid getting caught, I could only think: "I want her for a girlfriend!" Where's the extended version of this scene where she has the same amount of stealth and enough time for her own climax because I could have watched that for five minutes. No problem.
Secretary I liked too. Though the sexiest part for me was near the end when Maggie Gyllenhall is being washed down naked. It's not just the tenderness that's such a contrast from how the troubled relationship had been, but I just though she looked stunning in that stance. Like a statue of a Greek Goddess
Now I have to admit something I've been working my way up to I'm a little embarrassed about. The only other time I can remember thinking a naked woman looked like a Greek Goddess statue, was the Viva still (or whatever you call those photos on the left of IFM homepage) in a floor stance. The one from So Long part 2. Actually I could probably describe you in the part 1 still when you fixing your hair that way as well. I hope you don't mind me saying so.

Wow so interesting! So in the past, no one could outwardly, with calm and pride say, "I have sexual needs, I have sexual desire." I guess that's why it all had to be subtle. And that's truly interesting as well about the fact that, if a woman was expressing sexual or romantic desire, it was a cue to be careful of her - if you're getting seduced, it can't be just because she needs dick - she has to have an ulterior motive...
very interesting.
I have internalised this to some extent. Most of my life I was terrified of flirting because I thought I was doing men a disservice. Unless I was 100% sure I wanted to have sex, I felt I couldn't be too... sensual or warm with men. I didn't want to lead them on! I always envied, admired and resented women who were flirty or sexual all the time, got so much warm, happy attention, and yet didn't seem to have nearly as much sex as me. All along I was having so much sex but what I really wanted were those sensual, almost-sex interactions! I just didn't know how...
and also, about men, since it was always assumed they are slaves to their penises, maybe it showed character for them not to show/have sexual desire? in a sense we still have this now... though we more mock it maybe? or maybe it's just on the internet. "white knight" is an insult.

omg quickies are so great, and i LOVE that scene!
but to your question, "Where's the extended version of this scene where she has the same amount of stealth and enough time for her own climax", ah! the tragedy of my life! Quickies are so awesome, but I just can't come fast enough to include my orgasm in them. Actually I would say I could probably come in about 11 mins (probably my fastest when not reading porn unless something special is going on) which isn't exactly slow, but it's just the vibe? Like if I'm gonna come it can't just be a wild tear-clothes-off and get-it-in romp, it's gonna be, ok, lets find the good feeling, the position, I need to use my hands, there's eye contact, it's gonna slow it down...
and yeah I love that washing scene too. tenderness is so hot.
you've got nothing to be embarrassed over.. and I'm so honoured to have my silhouette honoured in the same realm as Grecian statues, the epitome of beauty. I will wear my short shorts with pride today.

I think has more to do with being seemingly in control. The idea that no man wants to be chased. They wanted to pursue what rather than be pursued, least they seed too much control by giving in. Hence the derogatory term "pussy wiped." So it's not that the can't admit desire, it they showed strength and (possibly) character for not giving in. Even if it's the woman they want they'd still want to take the lead. It stems from the larger stereotype that Man act/Women sit (wait).
The character of Bill from the classic 1950 drama All About Eve doesn't let the social climber title character down easy when she makes a pass at him. "[W]hat I go after, I want to go after. I don't want it to come after me." At least in that story you could say the character was noble for not wanting to cheat on his lady with her rival. Too often though there is the double standard at play. That only the "wrong" kind of women goes after sex.

That's one of the real cool things about the movie. They show (and tell) how timing in sex is different for women. Too often in movies there's almost no foreplay. Just a lot of fast moves and KA-BOOM.
It always surprises me when women say they enjoy sex without the orgasm. Another sign of being brought up with different expectations I suppose. So maybe her line about just wanting him to, "Give me something to talk on the plane with me" wasn't as unreal as I might of thought.

Man I wish sex gave me an orgasm like it seems to do for most men! The thing is, orgasms feel amazing but getting there can be a little less fun sometimes. For me it requires a certain amount of concentration, subtlety and finesse like we said. I think that's why I enjoy sex without orgasm, like obviously if I could have both I'd have that, but considering how achieving orgasm for me basically requires a form of collaborative masturbation, yeah sometimes I just like to let go completely and just move my body, fuck, feel good without necessarily concentrating on feeling the kind of good that will result in orgasm.

That's such a healthy approach Viva. I've found that almost nothing is so detrimental to good sex as when one or both partners are 'labouring' in order to achieve orgasm, rather than just enjoying the moment. Some people can come quickly, others will take longer or may need certain elements to be in place for it to happen, but it's such a relief when the general spirit between two lovers is that you can do everything but you don't have to.

The sex scene in 'the name of the rose', in the barn sort of place is kind of hot in a primal sort of way. I cannot remember the movie now, but there is a scene where Gwyneth Paltrow, I'm sure, walks up to the guy and just stands in front of him while he fingers her under her skirt. I think she says nothing then just walks away lol. That was sexy.

I think that was probably a modernization of Great Expectations with Ethan Hawk, but I'm not sure.

Viva if you read this, can you remember the first time you same naked people in movie? Either at home or a theater. I think the movie adaptation of Hair was the first time I can remember on video. In theaters it's almost certainly the luscious scenes of Gwyneth Paltrow and Joseph Fiennes in Shakespeare in Love.
Also can you remember the first time you consciously masturbated to a sex scene? Either one recall after the whole movie or having to pause go and for a quick one right away. Surprisingly the earliest time I can remember doing that was watching Cabaret. Not that sexy of movie, but it was pretty bold for a musical at the time. It was right after they did it off camera and Sally tells the friend so though was gay, Maybe those other three girls were just the wrong three girls."

That is a great question! I'm not sure I can remmeber the first naked people, but the first time I got aroused was (I think I discuss this in the beginning of this thread) was the bed-switching scene in Rocky Horror Picture Show! I remember feeling like I had to pee but like, "because" of the movie. I felt uncomfortable and wanted to be watching it alone. Touch touch touch touch me... I wanna feel dirty!
And then the first time I wanked to a sex scene was definitely the blue scene in true romance. I'd pause the scene, put on the song on my mp3 player, wank to the song with my eyes closed, then rewind the scene and watch again. So short but so beautiful. I love the way she kisses down his stomach, cue lifelong obsession with blowjobs.

wondering has there been any great sex scenes in any movies in the last 5 years?
