Re: Confession time

I just found out this week that Philip Oakey is in The Human League. One of my all time favourite songs is Together in Electric Dreams and for the past 7 years I've listened to that song at least once a week but I recently started listening to THL and saw the video to Love Action and was all "heeeeeeeeeey I know that guy..."

Re: Confession time

In the popular teen film 'Bring it on' I thought the cheer was "Burn it's cold in here, there must be some Toros in the atmosphere" which makes no sense at all. It is in fact "Brrrr it's cold in here."

Re: Confession time

When I was a period newbie the "urethra is a different hole" situation didn't really register so I would always take my tampon out when I peed - very wasteful tongue

Re: Confession time

Oh Mew. I mean I reckon it's fair regardless! If I used tampons I'd change it every time I went for a wazz because I frequently piss like a fire hose & I'd totally soak the damn string. Or just get pee on my hands from trying to hold the string out of the way.

Re: Confession time

Pee string does suck! The butt-crack tuck works well... I also only realised/found out in the last year that you can lubricate a tampon with some spit if it's a little um... Dry down there tongue the more you know am I right?!

Re: Confession time

Is pee string real, or are you just stringing me along?  Too bad we don't have a video demonstrating the tuck method, the tuck in your crack method, etc.

My confession: I never considered this before.  Thanks for educating me smile

Re: Confession time

lol! I always tuck it forward and to the right no idea why. pee string is suuuuuch a thing, it's smelly (yuck) and also I don't wear undies and if its dry it just stays all snuggly up next to me but if it gets wet it like hangs down and I can feel it brush my thighs and thats so annoying!

Oh yeah, I absolutely thought that too. Even when we were told in health class that there's a separate, tiny hole, I never properly believed it. I struggled with tampons for years and didn't start using them until I was about 23, so was a bit more savvy to the various holes then, however I would also remove the tampon every time I peed, just because I thought that was what you were "meant" to do for hygiene reasons or whathaveyou.

Re: Confession time

I literally didn't know about the location of that hole til I saw one while image editing for ISM.

Re: Confession time

That's totally fair! When you wee it really does seem like it's coming out of the main hole. It was also while looking at an image for ISM that I first properly saw the teeny hole too.

I saw this buzzfeed list today and it reminded me of this thread! Basically just a list of things that should seem obvious that people are only realizing as adults: https://www.buzzfeed.com/andyneuenschwa … fbbuzzfeed

Wow, so maybe I'm not such a dufus.  I do understand labia minora vs majora courtesy of ISM.

Re: Confession time

Nah, we are totally not educated about the subtle structures of the vagina, even us girls, even ones we use every day all the time. it's freakin crazy.

There's also a huge variation from woman to woman. ISM/IFM has hugely reinforced this for me!

It's one of those things where we have to take the time to investigate & explore our vulvas, really get intimate with our intimate parts & also share that knowledge with one another <3

Re: Confession time

Okay, so I’ve revived this thread because I remembered a great thing that I used to think when I was a little kid.

Although first let me say that all y’all have completely blown my mind when you say that even people who have the relevant anatomy can be unclear about where the pee comes out. Why would it come out of … never mind.

Anyway, back to my own wrong thing that I thought. In our family, at that time, we did not talk about “poop.” We referred occasionally, as was common in the USA at that time, to “number 1” (peeing) and “number 2” (the other thing), but another thing my mom would say instead of the latter was what sounded like “bee emm.” I found out MUCH later that those were the letters “b” and “m” and that they stood for “bowel movement.” But 1) she never explained this (it was clear from the context what she meant, that is, what she was referring to), and 2) she stressed the first syllable (“BEE emm”) instead of stressing them equally, which might have suggested an abbreviation.

Soooo, for a long time I thought there was a word, probably spelled “behem,” which meant “poop.” (Nope!) So far, not too remarkable. But it gets better! I never did see that word in print, which didn’t surprise me really, as there are of course any number of other things one could say instead, although I might have seen “BM” or “bowel movement” without making the connection. I did, though, later run into the word “behemoth.” (You can see where this is going.)

Now, the English word “behemoth” (usually pronounced buh HEE muth, but of course that’s not clear when you see it on the page) is a borrowing from Hebrew, where it means something like “great beast,” and in the book of Job, for example (chapter 40), such a creature is described at length. In English, though, it usually just means something really huge. But of course when I saw it, I thought it must be pronounced “BEE uh moth” and meant “big piece of poop.” Makes sense, right? Right??

Re: Confession time

For a long time I couldn't make out the words to that Rod Stewart song "Forever Young." I kept hearing it as "For Amber Yuan." For I imagined a Chinese boat!

Also remember Jessica Simpson? Yeah I couldn't laugh at the whole line about 'buffalo wings' because I though they were made of buffalo at one time. Of course I was a long younger than she was and had never seen them at the time. Just assumed they were wing shaped. In fact I've always found it to be a stupid name. Either they should make them out of buffalo or call them something else. Take you pick.

These aren't too recent I'm afraid. Hopefully I can come up with something later.

Re: Confession time

Also I've been watching a lot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer over the last year. I'd certainly watch it occasionally during it's original broadcast to remember the town was called Sunnydale. It only just occurred to me recently was that was meant to be ironic. This seems like an welcoming, sunny, small town to raise you family when really it's a magnet for demons and a death trap.
