The Museum of Sex NYC

Hi, all.  It's been a while since I posted here, but I've been following some of the discussions, and they are riveting, as always.  Finances are low again, and I've had to once more cancel my subscription (which is up in two weeks), but I'm enjoying these beautiful women while I still can.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but: I went to The Museum of Sex in Manhattan on Saturday, and they have an exhibit on the history of sex in film.  And lo and behold, they have an entire screen devoted to clips from Beautiful Agony!  They're mostly older videos, which is why, as I was walking around the exhibit, the familiar sounds immediately caught my ear (yes, they have audio along with the videos--it's quite an arousing experience!).  I was very glad to see this--the website was prominently displayed at the top of the screen.  I would have been happier to see some sort of caption included with the screen--something from BA's mission statement, or at least a description of the site--but hopefully passersby will be intrigued enough (as no doubt they should be) to visit the site and find themselves drawn into the luscious maze of BA/IFM/ISM.

Hooray for sex!

Kirejos, have you been to the museum?  I don't know what part of New York you live in.  It's certainly my favorite state smile

Re: The Museum of Sex NYC

I live in Rochester, but I get to New York City quite often. No, I haven't been to the museum, before this thread I didn't know there was a Museum of Sex in New York City. It sounds really interesting. smile I tried getting to The Museum of Sex in Amsterdam last year but it was closed (too late in the day). I had a ten hour layover at Schiphol Intl. Airport and took a train into the city. I ended up walking around all night by myself taking pictures.

Yeah, I "heart" New York. smile I'll be sure to let you know what it looks like up here this spring just as soon as I dig myself out of this snow bank. smile

Re: The Museum of Sex NYC

Tell me about it--I actually live in Albany right now (I grew up in NYC, though), and when we got back on Sunday afternoon from our trip into the city, we were greeted by fresh piles of snow along the sidewalk and the ever-daunting negotiation of the snow emergency parking rules.

The Museum of Sex is on 27th Street at Fifth Avenue.  It's rather inconspicuous, so it's pretty easy to walk right past.  It's on the north side of 27th, just east of Fifth.  They even have one of the sex machines on display connected to a button that you can push to operate it.  That's in the permanent collection, so I'm sure it'll still be there whenever you get the chance to visit.  The gift shop left something to be desired, but there was one thing there I regret not having bought (I'd already spent fifteen bucks for admission and, with funds as they are, just couldn't bring myself to buy it!): a full-color book of pictures of condom packaging throughout the decades.  One of these days, I'll have to pick that up.

Ah, I'd love to go to Amsterdam! Where were you traveling to/from to have that layover?

Re: The Museum of Sex NYC

Sweden (Stockholm). My cousin got married, had to pay a visit. It was really nice actually. My father is from Sweden, my mother's family too, so I make it over there once a year or so. I'm actually going in 1 week with my father to celebrate his 70th birthday with everyone. This time I'll be connecting through Copenhagen though, and I won't be traveling alone obviously. Although, if they have a Sex Museum in Copenhagen I could probably talk my father into checkin' it out with me. wink

Your journal is really great! Great musical selection, Duran Duran was the shit back in the day. Great way to pick an alias! I linked to The Sex Museum, it looks fascinating, I can't wait to check it out. Congratulations on your newly aquired driving skills, you'll be pushin' 80 before you know it, ha ha. smile You know, Sammy Hagar sang it best- "I can't driiiive, fifty-fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive". Give your kitty a scratch on the top of her head for me.

Re: The Museum of Sex NYC

Oh, how jealous am I!  I've always had a fascination with Scandinavia (the only promise I've made to myself is that I have to see Oslo before I die).  And you get to go to Sweden every year!  My parents grew up in Malta, and most of my relatives are there, so I've been there (and only there) five times, but I'm still desperate to see other parts of the continent, especially farther north.  I'd love to see your pictures!

Hey, I was totally pushing 80 on the highway through Pennsylvania smile.  Traffic was really moving!  And I still think Duran Duran is the shit.  I got to see them perform here in October, and I must say, they still put on a fantastic show (though alas, by then they'd booted Andy Taylor, so I didn't truly get to see the original five all together again... but his replacement was pretty cool).  Unfortunately, I missed Duran Duran and a-ha in their prime, since I was in first grade in 1985.  I have to, have to, see a-ha in concert.  When they performed at Irving Plaza two autumns ago, I was living out in Arizona and couldn't make it sad.  They rarely perform on American soil.  Ah, it sucks.

Kara meows hello.  She's a bit of a hussy smile

Re: The Museum of Sex NYC

There's also a museum of sex in Barcelona.  It's small and some of it is kinda bleh, but there is some really cool stuff in there...and it's not hard to miss because the employees stand outside and try to lure you in.  Annoying but in this case, effective.

Yeah, I've heard that Norway is just stunningly beautiful, especially along the coast. I've never been there but hope to go some day. If you go, don't miss the fjords in the south-western part of the country, they're not that far from Oslo. Cruise ships travel for hours into these deep inland fjords with towering peaks all around. Sweden too is beautiful in it's own right of course, a little more fun to explore and travel through though, I've heard. My travel fantasies right now include other parts of Europe. I'm actually planning a trip in the summer of '08 (around the world smile). London, Paris, Prague, Rome, followed by points east. Thailand, Japan, Australia, maybe South America. Maybe Malta too acually, now that I think about it. I'll post a few of my Sweden pics in this thread when I get back. Maybe they'll convince you to go. smile

I was in fifth grade in 1985, I remember my best friend and I would put "Arena" on his mother's record player every day after school, and we would dance around and laugh and sing all the words. We totally wore that record out, I remember it was always a huge buzz-kill when we heard her car pulling into the driveway when she got home from work. I remember how psyched we were that they played the James Bond "A View to a Kill" theme. Spies, explosions, Grace Jones and Duran Duran! I think the next big album to rock our world was some time later when U2's Joshua Tree came out. Those are some of my most vivid memories. smile

I have a cat, his name is Wednesday, I'm sure he'd love to meet her wink He's shedding like crazy right now though, he looks a lot like Kara but he has long fur. He's a little rascal. smile

I can imagine the response is usually something like this- "Well...I don't know if, OK!!
