I am sceptical of the "schools" of dream interpretation, since they are, like the Elf implies, too generalistic and do not take the individual and his/her personal experiences into consideration.

Burlesque.

I tend to agree. I also think that analysis of dreams is influenced by the interpreter. If, said interpreter has an understanding of you and your current life experiences it is likely that the analysis will include their perceived understanding. Humans are by nature self-absorbed and often throw their own sub-concious meanderings into the mix. If the interpreter doesn't know you at all they are likely to be more clinical and rely on obvious symbols which exclude personal experience.

Oh and as for challenging your sub-concious to a duel to the death....you'd want to be certain you can win!

I wouldn't necessarily need to win: if I won, I would be in control, and if I lost i would no longer be, erm, conscious of the annoying habits of my subconscious smile. A win-win situation.

Re: Perchance to Dream

This is a cool thread, worthy of return.

Flying, usually naked.  Other people present, but trated as if naked flying is totally normal.  Westwind, feel free to weigh in.

Re: Perchance to Dream

Wow, I almost forgot this thread still existed, but I'll have a go.

You may need to be a bit more specific. I cant ask too many questions or otherwise it will infulence the residual subcontious memory and interfear with the over all interpretation.
What I will as is:
How many others are flying with you? (no specific numbers are needed, just a few or alot).
Is there a pattern to this flying?
What are you flying over?

No need to remember every detail.

Re: Perchance to Dream

In the meantime, for all you budding Dream Readers out there, here is one of mine you can sink you're teeth into. I had this one almost 8 or 9 years ago, I remember it because I came to a conclusion as to what it ment, and over the course of time events I had interpreted became reality.

I drift to small patch of islands in a small boat over a clear sea. What seems odd is that the water is completely clear, even into the distance, the water dosen't turn blue, it stays clear.
The boat banks itself onto the shore of one of the islands and I set off up the sand and into the tropical forest. Heading up hill through the trees and groves I make my way to the top towards a cave opening at the summit of the island. Inside it looks like that used to be crater of a volcano with an enormous dome of lashed bamboo poles. In here I am surrounded by parrots (Macaws) of every colour imagineable. They squalk and fly over me, going about their business as if I'm not there. The see me but they dont care, there are a large group of them who watch me as I make my way up the crater trying not to distrub the birds. At the top I climb up the bamboo dome to get a better look around me. Sitting to catch my breath when I reach the top I see another four mountains with domes like the one I rest on, each with parrots flying around their summits and over the island. A red and a blue parrot land either side of me. The blue one says "This is Paradisia. Make it live." And the two fly away.

I'm woken up after that. Bloody alarm clocks.

I wonder if it's possible to read a cat's dream too. Ours is right now lying next to me obviously catching something in his dream. Too funny...

Re: Perchance to Dream

Sorry West Wind.  Computer's been on the fritz.

Alone, usually running or jumping off something to get airborne.  Blissful sense of freedom.  Seems like the most ordinary event- no wonder to the flight, but the sense of being free is overwhelming.

Re: Perchance to Dream

If you've ever seen the last episode in the series of an anime called Neon Genisis Evangelion, I think there is a part of it that hits the nail right on the head when it comes to the definition of your dream.

In this piece the main character (shinji) wanted to aviod all responsibility when it became too overwhelming for him, and wished to live in a world of perfect freedom. What he got was a world where there was nothing. Absolutely nothing. There was no way of telling if he was flying, floating, or falling because there was no wind to feel. No ground, no sky, no restrictions.

When we dream of flight, even if it is alone or in a group, we revel in the feeling of freedom that it gives us. But as human beings, we have an instinct to know that all good things will come to an end, for better or worse. By flying you are going from somewhere to somewhere else, without even knowing it you are seeking a restriction. You want to enjoy your freedom, but at the same time find out how far you can take it before there is a restriction.
The question that comes out of this is: Is this my definition of perfect freedom?
Or is my definition of perfect freedom knowing that there is no restriction.

In the case of Shinji he was thrown into this world where there was no restriction. Restriction only came in the form of ground. Something to stand on giving him the restriction of top and bottom.

You seek your own perception of perfect freedom. You define it through your dreams, and when you find it, you will live it.

Re: Perchance to Dream

hey west wind -

i had a dream the other night that a man (he was older and sort of scruffy - white beard, maybe 60-something) pissed on my feet.  i was wearing flip flops/sandals/whatever you call them where you come from, so i guess really he pissed on both my shoes and my feet.

what do you make of that one?

Re: Perchance to Dream

That in your dreams you have a case of Athletes Foot? tongue Just Kidding.

Becuse unrine is a waste product of the body, in dreams it is often reffered to as something that is thought to bring ill health or bad luck.
Have you had any health problems related to your feet?

Another way to interperate this would be to say that this older man wishes to bring these negative energies into your life. The act of expelling urine on to you is his way of spreading negativity and drawing you into his bitterness.
Be careful of who you meet.

Hope this helps.

Re: Perchance to Dream

he seemed like a bit of a hick in the dream...a hick dick, really.  maybe it's just common practice where he comes from.  i was sort of thinking along the same lines as you about negativity and arbitrarily-directed ill will, but can't really think of anything else that's threatening to do that at the moment.  i will keep an eye out, though, for foot-pissers and other assholes.

Gala, there's one school of thought that holds that *everything* in our dreams is an aspect of ourselves. Feet, among other things, are our foundation, that which supports us. So whatever that man represents to you, he may be some internalised part of you who in effect is trying to undermine your 'foundation', your source of support whether inner or outer. Perhaps this is a dream of anxiety related to moving to a different country, away from your former supports?
