I do differ with you, blissed, on one account. You said that this covert invasion is not an immediate threat. The only reason it's NOT an immediate threat is that it already happened.
Anyone who wishes to help plan the first global IFM "Take Back the Planet" march, email me. I know dauphin's in; anyone else?
I'm with you Chere. I'll bring a big flask of tea. Can we sing "Raise your Banner High?"

I've just come back from the future and I can tell you with absolute certainty that bolero (who will post below me) will oneday be a legend in his own lifetime, applauded both for his emence talent and ability to recognise the talents of others and his acts of selfless kindness, especially to animals. Oh, did I mention the enormous wealth, well, that certainly turned out to be a BIG BIG problem. Well, that and the envy................ Oh, I better not say too much, I may alter the time continueum.

It's true I do have a huge amount of talent - in one thing - recognizing the talent in others, and feeling green with envy with what I see. But envy isn't a talent is it so better strike that out of the equation. Enormous talent in seeing the talent in others like Blissed and like Blissed I am totally selfless and kind when it comes to animals. That's better. With these attributes I am surely the wealthiest person in the world.

I googled it and altho I haven't read everything about it, well, nothing actually I just read the headline and looked at the pictures, but it seems to be some sort of sexual experience, so yes, I think I'll have a go.
The person below will now tell us that secret they've been longing to tell the world for so long. Believe me, the time is right and the world is ready.

Don't ever let any Fijian or Tongan know Blissed that you think their Kava ceremonies are some sort of sexual experience; especially if they've got a machete in their hand. I'm retiring from this game - the rules keep changing.

Oh don't retire from the game bolero, if perhaps it's because you didn't like my back to the future post that I changed from the future :) it's just supposed to be a bit of fun, but if you didn't like it I'm sorry and if you email me and let me know if thats what it is I'll change it. But if you still wanna retire anyway, have a big kiss from me for taking part Mwah!!
Actually Adagio I have difficulty controlling my own mind :)

I'd like to hear from anyone who has participated in the authentic exerience of drinking kava, or -- if no one here has or does not feel comfortable sharing -- any OTHER ritual that is authentic to their culture (that last part will be a bit iffy, since very few of us, it would seem, are fortunate to belong to cultures that haven't appropriated and watered down and etc etc). For example, I could talk about some christian traiditions that have meant a lot to me, but my "people" either really had christianity foisted upon them, or (on the other side) appropriated its customs -- I don't really have any connection to culture or traditions of the majority of my ancestors. . . .
edit: oooh -- I actually came on to say WOW! Glad to have some fellow PEACE marchers and blissed i LOVE your rainbow banner!

Meanwhile, who is game to cop to liking both honey AND bees??!

The Kava ceremony is participated in by thousands of the tens of thousands of Australians, New Zealanders, Americans and a lot of Brits too; who visit the Pacific Islands. You would be extremely unlucky to visit a tourist resort in Fiji and NOT be offered the opportunity of participating in it. I have participated in several in Auckland and one in Sydney, as well as several in both Fiji and Tonga. I am disconsolate about where this thread has ended up (for the time being anyway) because the Kava ceremony is an icon of the Pacific and of the Fijian people in particular; although it occurs in Tonga too. If such flippant remarks as Blissed made about it had been made in the "Whores on holiday thread" the whole IFM world would have been on fire with indignation. I'm not angry about how Blissed constructs his posts as he seems to think I am - I'm despairing (just one more time) at the supercillious attitude some people have to some things they may not understand; even after googling them! As for my comment about "the rules changing" is there not something in the forum rules about respect for cultural issues? Maybe not and I am too pissed off to look.

Thing is, sex is beautiful and not evil, it's about both love and /or pleasure and the love of life itself, There are many other wonderful, fun and fulfilling things in life too, but sex is our prior reason for existing, because without it, none of us would exist at all. if something is associated with it, to me, thats a good thing. But I appreciate you have your own perspective, so I apologise if what I've said back there has upset you. If you wanted to start a thread about the relationship of sex and religion, I would definitely contribute.

Blissed - your most recent remarks show an incredible and surprising amount of cultural insensitivity and ignorance; as well as an unsurpassed ability for selective reading. I am not starting a thread about sex and religion. I wasn't talking about religion. You have a lot to learn about how some cultures treat what is important to them and the juxtapostion of those things to sex. You just can't mix the two in the same bowl. But I can see you can't understand that and moreover just don't GAF, so there's not much I can do about it.
I flick the ball on.

It's in the nature of web forums to distort meaning and purpose. Blissed has always struck me as one of the most sensitive types around here (and of course, very adept at building a patina of humour that makes it hard to access much of what is Blissed). Is Blissed's response so out of character with the general ongoing levity of this thread?
We now know that the kava ceremony -- and more broadly, it seems, the culture of Pacific Island peoples in general -- is something you approach with great reverence. But in a thread like this, reverence and deep exploration of a subject isn't the most natural expectation. This thread is more like a string of highly entertaining, clever, but in the end, reflexive responses.
I'd like to see you launch a separate thread about this subject.

The first IFM feature film will be about a shy site intern who, after a tragic auto accident, returns as a playful invisible spirit who watches the daily fun from the sidelines.
At the tale's climax (no pun intended) the ghost overcomes his timid nature and comes forth to lend a hand to a former co-worker, a pretty young lady for whom he had never been able to admit his feelings, on the day of her own first video shoot.

That would be quite a nice film actually. I think you'll have to suggest a cast. Max has got to be in it of course.
For all the time I'm not eating Salmon, I am a totally strict vegetarian.
The person below has told me that 2007 will be the year the world starts to radically change, simply because digital media will extend from the desktop into the living room. So instead of just a few voices (reflecting? ) a public consensus there'll be many voices on TV including IFM, youtube, myspace, Whoresaremagic.com and a billion others including ourselves. Any ad agency will tell you that TV is god, so this explosion of alternative views is gonna (like most TV) produce a subtle barely noticeable shift in the public psyche from one day to the next, but when summed over time will amount to a radical change in social norms. I think this is very exciting . This isn't something I've just invented myself tho, it was expressed to me with total conviction by the person below.

The link is just something that made me laugh.
I think their just French words some English people drop into conversation so nobody knows WTF their talking about and they appear intelligent. I'm doing it all the time
auteur controller of an artistic situation ie director of a film or play.
raconteur a conversationalist
cognoscenti (latin I think) means full of knowledge, an expert.
rapprochement the establishment of cordial relations, often used in diplomacy
repartee clever banter
Phew! I like the French language. I like the way it looks and the way the words are spelled even tho they often seem to bare no relationship to how you pronounce them.
