Time for a random question brought on by the original poster's username -- in a Computer Science class my prof made sure there weren't any Australians in the class before using the term dag (to refer to a variety of data structure called a directed acyclic graph). This was mid-80s in the US, and we had a prof from NSW in the department at the time, too.

What's the Australian meaning and how obscene is it?

it's not obscene at all. You would call your friend a dag if they said something, um daggy and in earnest, such as "Tom Cruise is a spunk".

Also it's the matted wool on a sheeps tail.

Daggy means 'uncool' but can be used in a gentler/more friendly way. Things like liking Taylor Swift or wearing a backpack all the time are daggy.
