Watching Japanese porn is such a weird experience. It's so hot to me, I love the girls and the noises they make and the weird no but yes but no but... vibe. There's a lot of the mental, "this isn't quite right" kind of hotness there for me. Just another thing to come to terms with in my head.

Since they can't rely on genitals to provide the visual stimulation, there's a lot of "other stuff", buildup and visual teasing, which just turns me on like crazy. Even in the regular ones, it's kind of a scary, predator/stalker mood, drawn out, slow and long. Like there's a whole video that's just two girls playing video games while a dude feels them up and films down their tops and pulls at their clothes and rubs against them and they pretend not to notice for the longest time. I found this video on Vice yesterday about the increasing popularity of female-friendly porn in Japan. It shows how one production company got around genital censorship laws by using a pair of knickers with lace sewn into the shape of labia to demonstrate cunnilingus.

I don't really know how I feel about "female-friendly" porn. It's always come off as kind of patronising to me, like someone else has decided what I should like and put it in a little box separate from the big scary world of "male-friendly" porn. So, I've never really been interested in watching anything that markets itself with that term.

How would you define female-friendly porn and what do you think of it?

I generally dislike the whole idea of female-friendly porn, for pretty much the same reasons as you, Dev. It seems so archaic already... like we were saying, the way that even though most folks knew a woman was capable of voting and driving and wearing pants, it took a long time for society to catch up - it feels that way with porn. Like watching a really slow fat dog try to run to catch up with you - you know that dog's a-comin', but damn if he's not slow as molasses. You're proud that he's making progress, but sheesh - we've barely been around the block! And there's a gorgeous park not too far from here.... c'mon!

Also, I just don't like the word 'female' either, it feels so biological and alienating like I belong in a special, soft, romantic little corner of a zoo. At the same time, I love "better" porn. I like better porn with better light and better stories and more emotional engagement - so if that's what female-friendly porn is, ok, I'm on board. I'm not into candles or beaches or long hair on men (ok, sometimes), but this Japanese stuff is really cute and sexy! It touches me on an emotional level, even the tiny seconds we get to see - a remote control falls on the other side of a boy's thigh and the girl reaches to get it, but stops halfway realizing how she has to bend across his lap - he sees her stop, catches her eye - she looks away - he touches her face, looks into her eyes again - bam I'm there! I'm with that story. So I prefer that heaps to the stunted, ironically jocular pizza delivery boy stuff...

but yeah can't we just call it "cute love porn" instead of "female friendly"? Not all ladies like cute things like I do....
