Re: You Tube

I cant get enought of Penn and Teller.
Here is something they did for the Muppet show.

They did this ages ago for a different show, but the effect still rocks.

An interesting fact: This was the first trick I ever saw Penn and Teller do. I really love this clip. So many memories.

I can't remember the first trick I saw them do, but I know I've watched them since I was in high school.  I bought their first three books (after which I lost track; I don't know if they've written any more together).

They're supposed to be pretty genuine guys.  Back when they lived in New York, they had a reputation for going to see cult movies in beat-up theaters downtown.  They would then let fellow movie lovers they had met tag along with them back to diners and such, where they'd discuss the movies they'd watched late into the night.  Not standard celebrity egos or paranoia.

Now I remember why I wanted to learn Swedish!
This is pretty cool. Ok, it really comes from Finland, but it has subtitles.

It's the Helsinki Complaints Choir!

FWIW, Penn has a daily radio show, which is available as a podcast.

Re: You Tube

As I've mentioned a couple of times, one of my jobs involves writing for various genre publications.  This following clip, an influence from my childhood, partly explains why:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSguVu1w4j4

This clip is from the late 80s.  When I was watching him as a REALLY young kid it was a *cough* bit earlier, and he didn't have the little pot belly (one might even go so far as to suggest that my family couldn't afford a color TV at the time, which would have made the guy look even scarier, but that would just be hearsay).

Re: You Tube

Seeing blissed's post of the giant rabbit on "The person Below" thread made me think of this.  It's a shame that they cut the begining of this conversation because this is in my opinion the finest piece of screen acting I have ever seen.

If anyone wants to see the "well of loneliness" pain of being a lesbian in a straight world (or if anyone just wants to see some really good acting on a really silly sitcom, OR if anyone is a fan of Winona Ryder OR Jennifer Aniston), check this hilarious segment of Friends: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKF52xGHIQw

Re: You Tube

As the topic of Music was brought up,
I've been a fan of the Blonde for Years and actually saw them when they toured.
The one song they didn't play was this.
Haunting Lyrics,
Still makes my spine tingle;

This song had just been released (for time frame)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwbIL7DC … ed&search=

But another few notables were;

&

&

But it was live obviously not acoustic version as here

Re: You Tube

Thanks, Cal.  The girlfriend, among other things, has requested that I throw together some mix CDs for her Christmas stocking.  She always likes to see what my eclectic tastes will dig up.  Thanks to you, I have now Napstered five or six excellent picks.

Heck, from what I'm seeing there, his best stuff could easily fill two or three discs, but that would kind of kill the whole "mix" approach.

This clip was originally called invisible water. I shows the effects of a denser  than air gas called sulphur hexafluoride.

Re: You Tube

I'm once again reaching out to this incredible community of smart people -- I saw a you tube video the other day that I need to find again because we're going to use it as background in a performance. The problem is, I don't know the name of the band. Or the song. But I'm hoping that at least one of you loves this band and so you'll know immediately.

Here's what i DO know:

it's a name that sounds like someone's middle eastern name: Sufjan Senam   or something remotely like that.

Problem is, it's a bunch of white boys, i think one lead guy, maybe that's HIS name. they are mid-20s I should think, clean cut, kind of blond-ish.

this isn't a tall dark lanky goth band. it's rock though, for sure rock. but then again, i think they were playing acoustic guitars in this vid.

ANYWAY -- in the vid they are all of them wearing WINGS.

you heard me. WINGS. while they strum their guitars and sing.

Can you help me??

Re: You Tube

Hiya Siobhan, this sounds uncannily like the guy I mentioned a few posts back on the Currently Listening To....... thread, Sufjan Stevens. As well as being a wonderful songwriter, he is also well known for his penchant for wearing multi-coloured angel wings onstage.

Try this link; http://www.ifeelmyself.com/forum/viewto … 008#p16008

PS I'd be intruiged to know which song you are looking to use?

If you're just getting into Sufjan's music, then take it from me you've got lots of fantastic treats coming up.

I think Nickleback kicks arse, but this is priceless.
