B) Be grateful for my relative silence;
I've been ruminating for the last couple of days. Long story short, I'm off to propose to the girlfriend. Be back later to let you know how it turns out.

Wow!
You know, dear Polarchill, I think you've very handily demonstrated one of the differences in people that are generally marked to gender differences -- but we know better.
Let me just say that were *I* about go propose to my girlfriend, ruminations or no, I would have covered this entire forum with my glee, fear, creative options, etc.
Bonne chance!!!!!!!

That's exciting, comrade Polarchill.
You're both likely experienced
in these matters, but, just in case,

Good luck, and let us know your "sentenced for life, without parole" date.
I'm sure somebody here can throw a Bachelor party. In your honor.

Well, we've known each other a long time.
We've been through a lot together.
There have been ups and downs.
I'm definitely not the most normal person in the world.
I guess you'd say I'm a bit of an oddball.
I'm a very quiet person, and I've always had trouble trying to open up for her friends. She is a very lively, vibrant person, though she has always insisted she enjoys my quiet nature.
I've always felt she deserves a better provider than I'll probably ever be.
She always said that wasn't important.
I guess not.
That's really her personality, not to dwell on that sort of thing.
On the other hand, it is exactly my kind of personality to constantly worry about not being good enough, not meeting some pre-existing set of standards.
Just another difference between the two of us.
Opposites attract, they say.
But are too many differences too many potential problems?
Sometimes I worry.
If I'm not good enough, she would be the one to suffer.
She's already been through one bad marriage, and I wouldn't want to do that to her again.
She deserves the best.
Is there someone out there who can be everything she needs?
I guess we may never know.
For now she's willing to settle on me.
She said yes.
I just wanted to make you scroll down.
She said yes. :-)

I guarantee, if we hear anything from EITHER of our sets of parents, we'll freak. Let's see, Dad's been gone nine years now, and Mom . . .
Although I must say, as I told the girlfriend herself once, given her cup size, I was surprised that Dad didn't rise from the grave just to shake my hand.
*cough* Not shallow, folks. We met on the internet. Fell in love purely on personality alone. When we found out what each other looked like, I considered the whole breast thing a nice little bonus, or maybe a sign that God didn't hate me as much as I had previously thought . . .

!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!
I think the Elfman and Adagio other talented htmlophiles will be in here soon to let loose the balloons and other elements of joyous frivolity that they do so well.
Of course we never had a doubt, Polarchill, and that's lovely and wonderful, and -- if I may be so bold -- let us help you look at your self-esteem issues so you will KNOW yourself to be the loving wonderful person you are, a wonderful mate, of that I'm certain.

Hmm, you know, sometimes the best man for the job IS a woman . . . but I'm warning you, the girlfriend hates spiders, so keep the hobbies to yourself . . .

Good lord, I just realized I've been up over 24 hours now. I was up yesterday morning deciding whether it would be the day I would finally ask her, and then after I finally did, and we got back from dinner and such, I was too wound up to go to sleep. I think I'm starting to crash. Did I forget to take my meds, insult anyone's relatives, post myself mooning, or anything? Never mind, I don't want to know. I'll see you guys after I've had a few hours sleep . . .
