Like the corn, the melons have not appreciated the weather this year. I'm often thankful I don't have to live or die based on my gardening ability.

Re: Garden Porn

Okay so my garden is kinda lame compared to Monotreme and Elsa's but what I lack in size I make up for in fancy camera!

IMG_2045.jpg

This was originally tidy but my cat did some unsanctioned rearrangements. There's a lot of broccoli because broccoli is the best.

I think these are beans or snow peas or something.

The blueberries are coming!

IMG_2092.jpg

Strawberries on the left, lemons on the right. I had to prune the lemon tree right back because it was full of Gall wasps, I've only been here a few months so hopefully we get growth spurts in the spring. Lemons are also the best.

Re: Garden Porn

Monotreme, that looks delicious! I bet the strawberries taste amazing - how old are the plants? My housemate had a strawberry plant but the berries were always very tiny and seedy. Very sweet though.

Aven, your plants look healthy and beautiful. Thanks for posting your pretty photos smile

Re: Garden Porn

SQEEEEEE!!! this is why this is my favourite site for porn. Monotreme - best garden I've seen in a while, but maybe that's cause winter has only just stopped giving off massive frosts in Melbourne. Keep up the lovely work everyone!

Re: Garden Porn

I only have a few answers but perhaps they will begin to help!!

There is rosemary free down the street from our office or I could bring in heaps, there's a big bush by my house!

You can buy planting and potting dirt anywhere like garden shops or hardware stores and you can make it regular dirt + compost + waiting!

There's free moss at the lake across road from my house!

And I have a nice friend who makes wood things fast if you need someone to help smile

Re: Garden Porn

Wow, a lot's happened since I last checked in. Monotreme!! Your garden!! Seriously rocking my jocks!! All my winter crops are failing miserably and it's making me sad sad But it's spring time now and I got to plant a couple of new things this afternoon. I'm waiting for a big order of seeds to arrive, then it's thunder cats a-go to get everything raised and planted by Melbourne Cup day. Aven, I had no idea you could grow blueberries in a pot!

My new additions! My zucchinis got a lot bigger than I thought they would last year and killed all the herbs I had in the garden bed, so the pot at the front is home to my new chives and thyme and I put a new rosemary bush in the main bed. I also planted two types of pansies and some daisies you can see hanging out at the back smile

RqWPQt9.jpg?1

This is the area outside my back/kitchen door. All the pots used to be full of awful, out of control succulents that reminded me of octopi (ugh). I ripped them all out a week or so ago and there is now an odd mix of silver beet, oregano, mint, spearmint, more pansies, newly sprouted cavalo nero and spring onions in the rectangular pot at the very end. And tiny palm trees which have been here since before I moved in. Fun fact - if you buy a bunch of spring onions and leave about 2cm of stem attached to the roots when you chop them up, you can shove them in the ground or in a glass of water on the windowsill and they regrow, which is how I got all of mine smile

SmJbYju.jpg?1

Tiny broccoli! Last year my broccoli got huge and healthy and wonderful and these ones are tiny, why has this happened? Maybe they will be extra delicious because they are extra cute

VNbUPMs.jpg?1

I also planted sweet pea seeds today. I like them because they smell delicious and look a little like vaginas. I stole this photo off The Google to demonstrate;

yC3htk3.jpg

Taci, I think a working bee is a good idea once you work out a plan! Maybe you can put on a BBQ and some beers and invite a whole bunch of people over. As for stuff that grows in shady spots and what grows in sunny spots, The Google machine is good at answering that. OR the Better Homes and Gardens website. My Mum actually bought me a 12 month subscription to the magazine for my birthday, it's quite handy and they have lots of ideas for garden layouts and stuff.

Re: Garden Porn

@Traci - next time i come into the office, i'll tell you where i work and give you a hand with choosing seeds and stuff but you should really visit ceres, and build yourself a raised garden plot in that space. Also you can buy fruit trees that come in old brewing barrels so you can take them with you when you move! Anyway the place where I work also does freshly milled flour (ground on the spot) which would be amazing for the bread maker!

@Monotreme & @Devotchka, shucks- you guys! thanks for saying hello

@Elsa_h i'm jealous of your broccoli heads, i gots lots of leaves but nothing in the flower dept like you!!! Do you liquid feed?

@Viva you just keep babeing on dontcha?

xo

Re: Garden Porn

Artemesia, I have crushed on you since the moment I laid eyes on your pixels. You brighten my life.

I'm a professor, and it was our first week of school this week. I didn't have time to check the garden, and my girlfriend/housemate was similarly busy, so the last garden check was on Monday. Today, I finally got time to harvest and this happened. Squash not pictured because it was already on the porch and I didn't feel like hauling it back out just for a picture.

Re: Garden Porn

Those are, indeed, purple peppers. The green ones don't agree with my girlfriend's digestion, so we plant red and yellow and purple. For some reason, the weather this year favored the purple ones (Burpee Pinot Noir). They have a really crispy flesh, and the flavor is cinnamon-spicy.
