Dear Diary, Love Charlotte xox

Friends, I have so much to say! Some of it is sexy stuff, some of it is day to day stuff. I thought I'd tell you about it here and we can chat about life.

Last night one of my housemates and I went down to visit the local grey-headed flying fox colony. She's been wanting to see the bats ever since she arrived in Australia and I promised we'd find them before she heads back to Europe in March. With directions in hand (thanks Richard!) we arrived at the location at dusk. Unfortunately due to the extreme weather the flying foxes are experiencing a die off, so the ground and trees were littered with poor little bodies. Fortunately we did see hundreds of healthy, active critters too... taking flight, swooping to drink from the creek and chatting to each other in bat-speak. It was a really beautiful sight at sunset, I just wish there was something we could have done for the heat exhausted masses! I read earlier this morning that vaccinated volunteers have gone to assist the colony today, spraying them with water and doing their best to help out without intervening too much.  Considering how I love to touch things I'm not supposed to (specifically, dead things), I think it's time I got myself a rabies vaccination.

Speaking of animal saviors, Viva has a baby bird that she rescued from the sidewalk! But it's her baby bird, so I'll let her tell you about that.

Despite this intense heat wave, summer has been fantastic; I moved back to Melbourne in October and I've been having heaps of fun socializing, working and meeting new people since then. Last Friday I went to see my all time favourite black metal band, Mayhem, play in the city. The show was amazing (I haven't had an adrenaline rush like that in ages!) but I woke up the next day feeling my age. Hungover, neck killing me and the sweat of 100's of metalheads clinging to my unwashed skin. I wallowed about for a while, pondering if I'd be better suited to light gardening and a quiet glass of chardonnay these days, and then snapped out of it. A cup of Earl Grey and a hot shower later I was feeling myself again. Fuck chardonnay.

Hmmm, what else is new? I suppose I should share something a little saucy... but news on the dating front is a little sparse! Perhaps I should share my awkward dating experiences here, with all names changed to protect the not-so-innocent, of course!

There is a person I really fancy, but as per usual I have developed a deep attraction to someone completely unavailable. This isn't quite as bad as the time I fell head over heels for a Mormon, but it's still got the potential to be messy and complicated. I love mess in my room, not in my relationships, so I might have to let this die out. Fortunately that leaves me with more time on my hands to swipe through Tinder as I lay in bed watching documentaries about archaeology with my faux-boyfriend Roderick (who is a skeleton). So stay tuned for updates!

Re: Dear Diary, Love Charlotte xox

Ever since I have moved to Utah, I've had that problem of crushes on Mormons. (In this case, Mormon girls, since Mormon boys are not my style.)

I saw a bumper sticker which was much too transgressive to put on my car: "I ♥ Mormon Pussy".

Unfortunately, the Church has some pretty strange attitudes about sex and human relationships and I have yet to find a current or former Mormon on whom I can see eye to eye on this fundamental issue.

It's great that you want to help the bats out! I know you have an interest in taxidermy, are you tempted to maybe pick up a bat skeleton? Also I would love to see a photo of you with that baben skeletor Roderick.

I'm glad you're enjoying Melbourne smile

Don't they ever!

I fell for my Mormon, let's call him Joseph Smith, while on a holiday in Thailand early last year. We got talking in a 24hr McDonalds restaurant in the middle of the red light district while I was buzzed on a cocktail of post-operative painkillers and soft serve ice cream; he was so polite and well groomed, it was desire at first sight. I suggested we catch a ping pong show and the next thing you know I was freezing my ass off in Salt Lake city having the sort of amazing, enthusiastic sex you'd expect from the deeply repressed. Despite being a garment-wearing, church-going returned missionary, Joseph had a pretty healthy attitude towards sex. I felt like I'd hit the jackpot and we spent a few months falling for each other before I decided to do some deep research into the LDS church. Long, heartbreaking story short: there was no future for us.

I still think of Joseph Smith often and I wonder what would have happened if faith wasn't a factor? Who knows! At least I still have an awesome sex tape to  remember him and his chiseled abs by. Thank Heavenly Father for small mercies!

How do you like life in Utah, Monotreme? I found the landscape beautiful and would have loved the chance to explore the wilderness a little more. I have a friend who is a geologist out there and she often finds immaculate animal bones in the desert. I'd love to own a coyote skull one day, and I fantasise about just SEEING a mountain lion; finding a bone/tooth/claw would exceed my expectations! If you're an outdoorsy person could you keep an eye out for me? wink

I would love to process a bat skeleton, but the grey headed flying foxes are listed as a vulnerable species and I'm not entirely sure about the legalities of having their bones in my possession. I'm certain it's ok, but I will do a little research about that over the weekend just to be sure. I'll be setting up my Dermestid beetle enclosure this weekend too!

It's been less than a month since he came into my life, but I have soooooo many photos of Roderick and I already. He's so photogenic and the life of the party!  In fact, we shot a very sexy little folio together on Xmas eve that I've been meaning to submit. As soon as I figure out how to post a photo I'll share!

Devochka, how are your succulent plant cuttings coming along?

I don't get out to the West Desert much, but I do explore the foothill trails near my home pretty extensively. I live within a kilometer of the Bonneville Shoreline trail system so that's where I am whenever the weather and my schedule permit. I'm an avid runner.

I have friends in the Zoology Department of the local college. Maybe they know of a place. I will ask.

Re: Dear Diary, Love Charlotte xox

charlotte, I think you're so great.. this post is just one more tick on my why charlotte is so great list. also your earrings this morning.

yes the heat was wild... so many animals dead, so many rescued. The baby pigeon I found, he was on the sidewalk dying in the sun, fallen from his nest. He was about 5 or 6 days old with his eyes barely open... I've never taken care of something so tiny, or has this much responsibility for anything at all, but I couldn't leave him there. I put him in my wallet and took him to work. I texted a picture to my vegan animal rescue-obsessed vet tech friend, who told me that he is a pigeon, considered a pest, and that any vet would just put him down if I took him to one...

itGWqbMIOCd9r.jpg

He's adorably ugly.

Together, we learned how to eat... learned how to keep him warm... how to not let him get too hot... how to get him to use his newly-strong legs to perch on top of his basket. And slowly but surely, he is living and growing. Every time I look at him I am so surprised that he is still alive. I can't believe I haven't killed him or that he hasn't just.. died. I am not a pigeon. I carry him around in a wicker basket and feed him when he's hungry.

ibqkHgI0zzlkAP.jpg

He thinks I am his mom. Pigeons are really good at finding home, so I think I have a longer-term friend than I originally bargained for...  I just can't wait to see him fly.

His name is Dog smile

Re: Dear Diary, Love Charlotte xox

I just realised I've never posted a photo on the forums before, so I hope I've done this right! Here's a photo (shot on film, just for something a little different) of my mail order husband and I enjoying a tender moment on Christmas day.

roderick

How was everyone's weekend? Mine was jam packed, I can't believe it's Monday already! On Friday night I caught up with my friends Audrey and Denna, on Saturday I got a new tattoo and then I spent yesterday brunching with a friend and running errands. I topped the weekend off with a (re-re-re-re) watching of Interview with the Vampire with Audrey. We've both seen that movie hundreds of times, so it was mostly just us eating popcorn and reciting our favourite lines out loud. My fave? "Oh, Louis, Louis. Still whining, Louis. Have you heard enough? I've had to listen to that for centuries!"

lestat

I used to be far more sympathetic towards Louis, but I think I've flipped and am firmly team Lestat these days!

While this weekend was very much all about spending time with my girlfriends, I did meet someone cute and interesting! To be continued... I hope.

Death's-head Hawkmoth! It's looking all fresh and slimy in this photo, but I'll post a much nicer photo once all the scabs have fallen off and it's fully healed.

People, I was having a little bit of a stressful day and then Aven posted these stills from my duet with Amarna Miller. Wow, I feel euphoric! I'm always so blown away when I see IFM videos/stills. Like, I know it's going to look really pretty but then I see the finished product and it just exceeds my expectations.

Re: Dear Diary, Love Charlotte xox

I'm on several bat friendly pages on FB and have adopted a bat. The plight of the bats world wide is near and dear to my heart as with bees, they are a crucial part of the eco-balance. The bat deaths and rescue in Australia are both very sad and uplifting when I see the efforts being made to save these amazing little mammals. Oddest thing, among my FB friends, those of us who love bats are also just as passionate about elephants, their struggle to survive as a species and their killings and captivity at the hands of humans. Viva, I'll end up with one or two baby birds in my yard each spring but sadly, they seldom survive. Hope you have a rescue center for yours.
Charlotte, love you new ink. The artists and the ink quality are so good these days and the choices are endless. I still favor the "Sailor Jerry" look but that's part of who I am. Nice discussion. You gotta love this site!

My baby dog is now 20 strapping days old and nearly fully feathered! He came on a roadtrip with me this long Australia Day weekend, in his basket, riding on the floor of the combi like a champ. We've switched to dry seeds and with a little effort he's bound to fly soon! WLV I adore bats, I would love to see a picture of your adopted leather winged mammal child.

No, no, go ahead! I'm all for lively discussion about life, hobbies, interests, etc. I love the IFM forums but sometimes I feel it's all a little intellectual for me and I get scared to participate. I wanted to create a little space to share the mundane details of life, complain about bad dates or discuss my burning desire to dye my hair black again.

I owe my 'diary' a proper update but have been run off my feet. More day-to-day life and photos coming soon... featuring SKULLS!

Peekaboo is SO CUTE. Gosh baby birds are such hard work. He has gotten to a point where being swaddled in towels with a heat pack isn't enough - he needs cuddles, too. Basically he screams until I hold him, like all the time unless he's JUST eaten. Yay! Fingers still crossed... wink

I do know the feeling. There's quite a few prodigious intellects who post on any of the forums and one gal in particular would be totally intimidating were it not for the fact she's sweet and genuine.
Everything and nothing is mundane, IMO and I just contribute when and where I can in the hope I don't make a complete ass of myself. I've stated this before, being here, on the forums and as a member, has changed me in ways I didn't think possible at my age. I've learned a lot about myself and I've grown and learned new things about people and how we interact and just how much we have in common.
When I first joined, I was struggling with some issues from my military service and to be honest, not the nicest person on the block. I still struggle, still go to therapy but I've narrowed my demons down to just one.
Every time I hit, "Submit" here, I feel on thin ice. Truly. Never fear posting. You've always got at least one other poster you can run circles around.

Yes, the bees! I've been so pleased to see a lot of bee-friendly planting guides popping up online lately, I think people are starting to take their role in the ecosystem seriously.

It's wonderful to learn more about everyone in the IFM community through this kind of casual discussion! I always imagined that the kind of people who appreciate socially responsible erotica would have a range of weird and wonderful interests, and I haven't been disappointed. WLV612, do you have any tattoos? Some careful analysis of my videos may reveal a very old and faded bee tattoo...

"leather winged mammal child" - Oh Viva, I snorted tea through my nose as I read that, bloody hilarious! But what an adorable mammal child she is, so squishable. I'm glad Peekaboo is getting the love and care she deserves, her conditions before her rescue sound awful.

What a beautiful photo, Viva. I was so shocked to see Dog yesterday, he had DOUBLED in size since I saw him last. Oh, they really do grow so fast! Has he started to peck yet? How did his bath go?
