Re: Hi. I'm drunk.

TWW, once again you have a brilliant concept, maybe your best yet.  You see, I just laid in a quad of Dogfish Head 90-minute India Pale Ale, and it's never been my intention to share it (visitors, who are otherwise treated with great respect, will have to drink the Schlitz)!  You have just pre-legitimized an act I've been plotting, now, for at least 25 minutes. Perhaps I'll remember to post during the height of my, um, experience.

Re: Hi. I'm drunk.

Ooh... I love drunk-threads, although they're even more fun if you're drunk yourself as well. I made the drunken rounds on the forums a few weeks ago, but I think I was sober enough (or not-drunk enough) to type properly (and correct what wasn't proper).

I tend to become very talkative when I'm drunk-in-writing, speaking my mind on just about anything. Which is pretty much what happens IRL as well, obviously. I do think, however, that it has a rather profound effect on the way I express myself. I become more to the point, and not so obsessively eloquent. Somethin I am of course most appaled at in the morning. wink

Re: Hi. I'm drunk.

Hi TWW,

My present condition is not extreme (I've consumed one bottle of Samuel Smith Imperial Ale -- but they are big bottles).  I find myself thinking of Guernica,

Guer-1.jpg

a torturously great painting by PP.  I guess some of us are still tortured by *the* war, and it is maybe comforting to thiunk that what we've done is not a match for what was done back in 1938 in Spain.

Oh yeah, I meant to add...  Today is a holiday in the U.S. -- "Veterans Day" (once called "Armistice day"). My neighbor is flying his American Flag.

American%20Flag.jpg

I don't know why.  Maybe he's got a kid fighting over there (he's a cranky old guy, probably a republican), maybe he's patriotic, or, maybe he knows I'm not (and just wants to annoy me -- the damn flag is so close it'd smack me in the face if the wind were to kick up).

Re: Hi. I'm drunk.

It was great. The last night was a standing ovation. Our theatre company was on the verge of drying up, but we broke even on the first night!
It feels so good that it is now over, but once again, I'm at that stage where I just want to keep going.
Tempers were frayed at stages before the first show, but I found the best way to get beyond it was to distance yourself from the situation completely.

So, yeah. We did it!

Re: Hi. I'm drunk.

Well done mate.  I'm really pleased for you.  If you are anything like me though you will be a bit down today.  I always get depressed when a show closes.  It's a weird feeling isn't it?  Over the last few weeks things have got more and more hectic and tense building up to the show going on, then you have all of the stress and excitement of performances, and suddenly it all stops. It's like a part of you has been chopped off.

Elfman.

I'm not drunk; hopefully that doesn't disqualify me from replying:

If you're describing yourself as "not patriotic" because you oppose the Bush regime, I'd beg to differ: IMHO, the true patriots are the ones who do oppose this regime, and the regime itself, which has consistently used the Constitution as if it were toilet paper, are the ones who are anti-patriotic.

Ah, politics. What would inebriation be without politics?

Sam Smiths in the States.  Seems like such a weird concept sat here in Yorkshire.

Or politics without inebriation.  Didn't Shaw write something about alcohol allowing
Parliament to do things at eleven at night that no sane person would do at eleven in the morning?

Good one, Elf!

Oh, I wish I had time to get drunk, but there's this slavedriving bastard forcing me to do all his work for him, so I'll just have to stay sober.

I had my liver removed years ago, as it was just trying to stop me from having fun. I ate it with some fava ... oh, I already did that one.

Re: Hi. I'm drunk.

You could always burn a flag on your own lawn. And then salute the brave US soldiers who died and gave you that right.

<opinions...>

Here's an opinion: World War II was the most recent conflict in which the average U.S. soldier knew why his/her life was on the line.

Here's another opinion: The national flag of a country is a symbol of that country's greatness, its uniqueness, its history (no matter how many blemishes that history reveals), its culture, and, especially in the USA, its diversity.  The flag does not become meaningless when that country is at peace.  Since the time of the American revolution (a war in which a lot of brave people acted with heroism), we have committed near-genocide (indigenous peoples of north america) and our leaders have owned slaves.  The USA has redefined itself many times since that first flag flew -- it is not the same country it was in 1814. It is even a very different place than it was a mere 60 years ago at the end of WW-II.

<end opinions>

When I salute this flag, I'm not saluting the country as it exists at the present.  In fact, I'd like to see a world where national flags are not needed.

I ask you to re-read my post carefully and see if you spot some irony.  Note especially the punctuation, and ponder whether I meant something simply by which words are capitalized.

Re: Hi. I'm drunk.

Well, if flags aren't your thing perhaps the IFM squad can make one of those big crappé paper banners, like you see at the footy. It can be of a naked woman having an orgasm, then have all the contributers of IFM run through it and have one giant street party.

Why am I having a vision of Dandy and Liandra arguing over who gets to use the bbq?

You missed the Irony of my post. smile

A way to piss off the "flag" worshipers. Is to do, and state what I just stated. (And land yourself in Jail. After a 9-11 "thought control" experience.)

But, I agree with you dylexius. I know of the millions of Atrocities that US soldiers have done both to their children, and Others. The Australians, English, And others as well committed regional genocide. (Aborigines, Native born Africans', etc.)

A recent exp, Would be the UN sitting on their Ass's. And Watching the Native Sudan\Ethiopians\Sierra Leonians get slaughtered while they slept with the "native born" child prostitutes.

Like You, I aspire to the Ideals that the flag represents. And despise the Evils' done in its name.
