Oh boys.. and girls, break out your handkerchiefs and sit your cute butts down for 20 minutes, because I think everyone should watch this short film.
The premise is a world where the societal expectations for sexuality is swapped on its head, so that people who are inclined towards romance with members of the opposite sex are considered deviant at best, disgusting and immoral at worst. After watching it, I feel weird referring to heterosexual people as 'straight'... well I would like to discuss this concept at length with you guys, but you've gotta watch it first.
warning, tear-jerker.

Thanks for the downer, Viva.
Yeah it is pretty disgusting what our society does. Racism and discrimination based on disability are no longer publicly acceptable. (Although I did try to find a dentist just yesterday and got turned away because of my wheelchair; the second place was a little better.) But my point is most of the time, things are easy due to access laws, and societal attitudes.
Hopefully, attitudes toward all orientations are changing and one day soon homophobia will be a thing of the past.

I know I feel really guilty posting this but I also found it just so thought-provoking. Sorry for the downer my friend! I wish they had a version which wasn't about the tragic end - I feel the same objective could be achieved without that kind of drama. But the reality is, gay teenagers are killing themselves, they are being bullied, they are facing lives in which they have no control and seemingly no way out. It's stories like this one, all too true, which inspired Dan Savage's amazing It Gets Better campaign to give these kids hope and remind them that there's life after high school..
But even without the theme of abject bullying, the idea of a world in which being heterosexual is really weird kind of functioned as an eye-opener to me. It's easy to say, yes I accept that I am privileged, without actually being able to understand what that means.

Yes I kept waiting for the happy ending. My friends were given a hard time by a neighbor so let's remember its not only kids that are bullied.
Thanks for bringing this up!

This was posted to my FB page a short time ago and it's disturbing, powerful and all too real in it's intended message.
Bullying is reaching an all time high here in the US and shows no sign of easing off. Attacks on members of the gay, lesbian and most of all the trans communities are not only growing in number but in the level of violence.
The climate here, given recent events and the seemingly endless conflicts we're involved in have only bred a deeper distrust of any one or any group who seem out of step, against the norm as it were. I'm reminded of pre-WWII Germany much more than I care to acknowledge.
Bullying isn't restricted to certain groups either. It can simply be against someone who may be shy, quiet or happen to cross a member of an established clique. I saw this many years ago but the level of violence today is appalling.
While on one hand, there seems to be a larger acceptance of sexual minorities, that's only on the surface, or so I have witnessed. Teens in the trans community are being targeted more as many more teens struggle to find their true identity. It's not a phase or even a sexual preference, it's about identity and there's a growing body of scientific evidence to prove it's validity. Sadly, the result has been an increase of distrust, hatred and brutality.
