The expansion of the universe is most likely slowing

Where does science get the idea that the universe expansion is excellerating. If the furthest galaxies and so the oldest light is red shifted the most, that tells us at the beginning of the big bang, like any explosion everything was expanding quickest. The newer light is red shifted less meaning like any explosion the force is dissipating and the expansion  is slowing down. We see Mars as it was 20 minutes ago and our nearest star as it was in 2008. We can only guess what's happening out in the universe right now. because we are effectively blind to the present state of the universe. Even my assumption may be totally wrong because a new force has shaped the universe in a completely new direction, who knows. What we shouldn't do is look at the light we see and say the most distant galaxies are anything, they were, most of them have most likely disappeared and the expansion of the universe is most likely slowing.
