I should hope so, otherwise it's not prostitution it's sex slavery.

and here is a great interview with the film maker.

I had no idea that house fees were so high in some clubs in the USA, $200 is fucking ridiculous. I've danced in a few clubs in Melbourne and have paid between $20 and $50 a night for the privilege, which I always thought was ethically totally gross but easy enough to absorb. The one place I worked at briefly that didn't have a house fee (it was run by a dancer, and was such a nice place to work compared to everywhere else) couldn't get itself the right licence from the council and was shut down. Bullshit.

A certain CBD club is $100. I was apalled at that, let alone $300.
A quote from the film for the project really, really struck me 'it got to the point where I couldn't get a dance without having to give a blowjob'
I think this is important and that's why I put in some money. I encourage others to chip in if they want to hear this story as well.

The solution is the same as should be done for the banks. For someone to run for political office who would shut all the offending clubs down and arrest and criminally prosecute the owners (electorally popular). Then police the remaining and new clubs that would open using direct covert surveylance by people who are strippers, who would gather evidence to enforce laws that look after the welfare of sex workers regardless of gender. If supermarkets have to put up with local authorities paying under age kids to try and buy alcohol from them and prosecuting them when the under age person succeeds. Then stripclubs (and banks) can tolerate similar covert policing.
So shutting down shitty clubs is electorally attractive but the sex worker welfare can be sold to even a conservative Christian based electorate by saying, if you had a daughter and she fell into what is at the moment a crime ridden and seedy business, she's an adult and there's nothing you can do to stop her. So isn't it better that her welfare is being looked after than her being loose in a criminal jungle that will quite happily take her life.
Personally the strip clubs in her kickstarter video look absolutely revolting!!! It would be lovely to see strippers co-ops running their own nights and clubs free from possible criminal intimidation from their competitors and creating an atmosphere that shapes the attitude of the audience in the same way Feck does for porn.
BTW has anyone ever heard of male strippers paying to dance? and if not, any thoughts on why? especially if your insight could help female strippers.

I personally don't think that is a solution. Once you shut something like a strip club, it is exceptionally difficult to open another one. I can't speak for other places in the world, but that definitely would not work here in Aus.
I wrote about the kickstarter I posted about above, on my blog. I heard personally from Hima, the director and creator today and she is fucking amazing!

I would think the reason usually a club is so hard to open is because they're currently so undesirable, with possibly criminal links and lots of peripheral nuisance and crime in the surrounding area.
At the same time as we're closing the worst old clubs we invite new applications from people who want to address all the problems and create something a lot better.
The other major part of this switch is finance. Would you lend money to a semi criminal strip club and if not, where does the money come from to finance one (I think we know). If the nature of the business and it's practices are supported by the local authority, then legitimate finance is possible, at least over the term of the elected officials who are giving their support.

Good luck taking clubs away from the various bikies and prosecuting all of them. Well, at least in Victoria anyways.
Also, it is really not that simple. Banks don't fund strip clubs fullstop, doesn't matter how 'legit' you are. You are describing a level playing field as if it was a given, anything to do with the sex industry is shunned and no one wants to be seen as helping it.
I know exactly what a club went through, in the north of the city, to get their doors open and it was utter discrimination and bullshit. At every level.

I think it's a shame that the only genre of place-to-see-girls-wiggle has to be a club. When it comes to all my other indulgences I have options - I can drink my beer in a rowdy pub, or have a glass of wine in a quiet restaurant, sip whiskey at a jazz bar. I would love to see women dance naked in a place where I can order a double espresso and play chess, or in a back patio somewhere that doubles as a butterfly garden. I would love to see women with body hair - that's not to say that all dancers should, but it'd be nice if some could. I am mostly saying that I've often thought about dancing for cash and I wish there was an option that matched my aesthetic where I could feel sexy - like I do dancing for my boyfriend - as opposed to garish, fat and uncoordinated, which is how I feel when I try to dress up for a nightclub.
I find myself struggling when we talk about stripclubs more than almost any other aspect of sex-positivity. I feel confident speaking on sex work and porn because I do these things, I have that insider's privilege, but I have never worked at a strip club and even though I love listening to Zahra Stardust give her amazing talks about how working at one can be a feminist experience, I have trouble understanding how on a personal level. I feel like that with sex work, it is extremely dangerous to avoid telling the truth about the negative aspects, but those truths are used to villianize us in the public eye, which is why we don't have woman dancing over our mid-afternoon cafe chess games.
I'm not saying all sex work should be bright lights and afternoon gym shorts - of course sometimes we like it really seedy, we like it rich, dark, deep, secret and under the cover of night. That's a delicious feeling too. I just wish there were options.

Viva, there are, that's why there are agencies that you can book with.
I used to do topless waitressing through such an agency, they also had strippers, go-go dancers, lingerie waitresses and so forth.
I went to sporting club 'breakups', private parties, mid morning brunches...
It was a long time ago but I remember it as being confronting, fun and very well paying.

Hyperballad, well it seems we start out trying to combat a few dodgy strip clubs and end up fighting the whole word So be it then. I think a better secret service could combat organised crime in victoria.
My plan is much larger than trying to open one independent club and is engineered with the force of government to attract clean money. Most bank money at he moment is legitimate dirty money, investing in tobacco, the arms trade, Chemical farming in developing nations, oil exploration in Africa. They don't give a shit about morals or integrity just financial return. I don't want their money. There is lots of clean money around evidenced by projects like Kickstarter and venture capitalists who can be on board with the aims of a project and then theres the half dirty money that simply wants the criminal element removed before considering investing.
Viva having strippers an erotic shows in many diverse locations would be great.
We could have erotic shows pretty much anywhere we have fashion shows, so why not erotic shows in art gallery cafe's, and for a sleazy show I can't think of a better place than yards from Big Ben at One great George street London http://www.onegreatgeorgestreet.com/OGG … _video.asp
