Equality is such a difficult thing for any minority to obtain, not just in law books but in practice. It seems as though narrow mindedness and prejudice have a fine root system that can never be completely eradicated. Sometimes I see what appears to be a change for the better for the LGBT community only to hear of stories of persecution and I feel equality for any minority will never become reality. I see the struggle of physically impaired people and even though they've managed to gain some ground, they still struggle for acceptance. I don't know. I don't want to soap-box here, which is what I will do if I get started but if people have a problem with acceptance of a group, can't they at least leave them in peace to live as they choose?
Perhaps one day.......
One of my favorite songs of all time, On the Turning Away by Pink Floyd should be the anthem for change and equality. Last verse;
"No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It's not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there'll be
No more turning away?"
