Hi Charlotte
Yep, Maid Cafe and huge sex toy supermarket in Akihabara (anime capital of Tokyo). And love hotels in Shibuya. (or Shin Okubo) Have you been to a "gay bar?" In Japan, it means a place transvestites (sometimes just a guy with drag and sometimes post-ops) entertain you with drinks and small talks. They do a show, too (singing and dancing). It was hip to visit one when I was there. (We took our friend to a gay bar for his bachelor party. He had a memorable experience there.)
Have you been to the penis festival in Kawasaki?

Before I forget. Here is Penis (Kana Mara = Iron Penis) festival in Japan. This festival is deliciously ludicrous. Check those clips out. Actually this place is only 30 min from Tokyo.

I think they are female monster slayers because women look hotter kicking ass. Love a tough chick!

Thanks for the videos shasei42. I think I saw a vagina lollipop there too. I think the American guy reveals our bashfulness about genitals, I think we find them amusing because although we're intelligent they do hold a certain truth about what we are.

If you ever visit Japan, bypass Tokyo and head straight to Kyoto, an ancient capital.

What's wrong with Tokyo? I think I would have missed something if I didn't stay there for some days when I spent my holidays in Japan. And that's not just because of the best sushi in our solar system or a simulated earthquake. There's so much to see in and around Tokyo that four weeks won't be enough. Compared to Tokyo, Kyoto seemed like a small village to me, it's really something completely different. Too bad that Kyōto Gosho was just closing as we arrived...
Nevertheless, I had a great time in Japan and I'm looking forward to my next trip to Tokyo...and Osaka...and Okinawa...and...
By the way, since I visited the Yaeyama islands, I'm somehow addicted to this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7ggJquI … re=related

The world would be a terrible place if we all liked the same things.
To be a bit more specific on that Tokyo vs. Kyoto thing: Tokyo seems to me like the quintessence of Japan and its culture. There are shinto shrines between skyscrapers, calm parks next to huge shopping malls, it's full of contrasts and surprises. Whereas Kyoto seems more relaxed without these strong contrasts. In fact, you have to go from north to south (or otherwise) to experience the slight changes. I think that both cities are well worth a visit.
After reading your discussion about crime stats on the previous page, I remembered one fact that still surprizes me when I think of Japan: There are vending machines all over the country, if you ever feel thirsty, you can be sure that it won't last very long. Even far away from the next city or village, you will find vending machines next to the streets. And if I think about what would happen to these if it was Germany instead of Japan: It would take less than two days until they were damaged, stolen, raided... There seems to be much more respect for the property of other people in Japan compared to what I experience here in Europe.
Nevertheless it was a little bit strange to leave the bag with my camera and lenses unattended on the beach while snorkeling some hundred metres away. Would I do that in Germany, Spain or France? Never!
Thinking about wasting time is a waste of time.

Bit like this pic of Hong kong perhaps.

Close, but not exactly what I have in mind.
That's just 300 m away from Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (height: 243 m), from where I took the photo.
The problem with these shrines and temples is that in most cases they are surrounded by more or less trees, so it's hard to have the skyscrapers visible in the background without being too far away from the shrine.

Here's a 2 min TED talk that kind of illustrates why I find Japan fascinating
http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/755
I think it's because finding people who speak English in Japan is pretty difficult and with each language comes a different way of thinking.
IThe video also explains I think why there's so much stuff (vending machines etc) out on the street in Japan.
