The Suicidegirls Connection

"When we first started out in this caper, one of our biggest influences was Suicidegirls.com. ... Over the years we've had quite a few SG's contribute to our projects"

- notes to hot mess by Nicole_S

Before I read that I was thinking of an essay by Stoya about another oughties project which tried to market porn without the sleazy and stereotypical copywriting https://stoya.substack.com/p/feral-mitc … igin-story

The Reverend Mitcz—a Satanist, ordained by the Unitarian Church—hosted an internet streaming show on Music Plus TV, and had a standing invitation for any of the GodsGirls models to stop by every Thursday. ... The website sold subscriptions to a library of nude photographs of alternative models, with “alternative” indicating that instead of little factoids about the models—which were probably composed by a copywriter—there were blogs, and forums where members could interact with us. This kind of interaction was a precursor to the direct-to-fans platforms like OnlyFans of today.

The previous year, I’d thought I wanted to pose for punk rock, female power branded SuicideGirls.com, whose models were the Queens of Myspace. They had a touring burlesque show.

Not sure where I am going.  The Internet has become centralized and captured by a few American corporations in ways nobody imagined in 2006, but some indy web people got around and are still doing their thing.
