Bold New Sexuality at the Movies 1983

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lzc4mZ-nW0E&t=2s

As promised the follow up to that At the Movies special from 1983 I posted about regarding teen-age sex in movies. This came out a week later and is about the changing frankness of adult sexuality in main stream films. Would have gotten to this sooner, but I got sick with Covid last week.

A couple observations: It's true that we do find circulating shifts in turns of how much sex and nudity is present in movies, but for the last decade I've noticed the boldest content doesn't seem to be in feature films. Most often it's cable or streaming series where we see esteemed actors and actress more willing to do nude scenes. It's only the place where stories seem to figure frank sexual relationship more firmly into the larger story lines.

It's hard decide off-hand which actor or actress could be next generations Gable or Harlow. The way described Richard Gere and Natasha Kinski were the most iconic sex symbols of early 80s cinema. Again that might be easier to find on cable. Also interesting to consider if more actors are setting new standards about what their willing to show on screen. With more people outspoken about sexual exploitation in the business, intimacy coaches are more widely encouraged.

Finally it's amusing that they credited more genuine storytellers and artists handling of frank sexual content with the decline of pornographic films where this content had been confined for much of the 70s. While that may have been somewhat true, than don't mention the growth of direct to video porn that was just taking off about this same time.

Who would you consider the most sexually exciting actor/actress right now? Are there any recent films that proved surprisingly honest in their use of sex and nudity as something more than attention grabbers? Check this video out and maybe let me know what you think?

The 2020 Hulu/BBC series Normal People got a lot of credit for honest depiction of sex. However these scenes I would not describe as erotic, or titillating.

Most of the scenes were between Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal.

Intimacy coaching was a big part of the production.
