Book suggestions for feminism/femininity?

So I’ve got the best job of my life now. Except it’s in a place where the male/female ratio is horrendous. Not a lot of social opportunities. And I work 50-60+ hours a week. I was raised by strong women and want to be able to confidently consider myself a feminist. (I think my grandma was in that first generation of nurses who specialized and became professors, for instance. An all around loving person and persistent.) I’ve also got a minor in philosophy, but it’s old (2007).

Any book suggestions or videos/etc to get me a little caught up with “modern” feminism or in general?

Fifteen years is not a long time in philosophy!

Fifteen years is not a long time in philosophy!

Yes and no. Like, I love the Tao Te Ching and Kant, but there really has been progress. Though I could argue not being racist/sexist/etc is a bit of following through on the categorical imperative to treat people as ends in themselves and not means to ends. And somehow I imagine a Taoist should be able to at least respect a growing continuum of genders and preferences (but I mean the actual book and not wherever the religion went as a group of people practicing a religion).

One anthology that I highly recommend is Not June Cleaver: Women and Gender in Postwar America 1945-1960. It provide a well rounded variety of stories and sources reveling the diversity of women's experiences, challenges, and contributions. Far from exhaustive to be sure, it still covers a lot of bases (Nurses, Beat writers, lesbians, unwed mothers, peace activists etc.) realizing a complex tapestry of adaptation, resistance, and development in what's too often treated as just an empty gap between feminist waves. A vital read for challenging the myths of this period as simply one of domestic bless or bland conformity.
