GUYS IM SORRY but I'm hormonal and I'm angry and I'm gonna rant. Hopefully if you don't want to get indignant, that nice thread title will keep you away.
I just read an article - in the NYT - about how all of us twerpy irresponsible young women in our 20s are all like, "we can do whatever we want la la la!" but then the big numbers come and all of a sudden, BARREN WOMB. NO HOPE. FOREVER LONELINESS. Here's a quote from the article: "“Everyone in my life told me how young I looked for my age,” she said. “I assumed it was the same on the inside as it was on the outside.”
BOY WAS SHE WRONG! IT'S OLD AND DEAD INSIDE, MS 33! old and dead! She's bad and she should feel bad, even if she "looks good". Especially if she looks good.
Why world of news and media. Why do you want to make me feel bad? Why do you lump everything together into some sick, rudimentary soup and pass it around like a virus? How is this edifying, bracing, enlightening, or informative?
Even if this is "true", and any woman who wants a family better get cracking around 27, tops - what's the point? In case you hadn't noticed, world, you're an asshole and we're mostly trying our best. If we want families but we're not preggers by the time we flush perfectly into our 27th year - acceptably sophisticated after the wild parties and world-travelling of our carefree early 20s, perfectly world-weary and ready to smile condescendingly at our peers from a nice wooden porch-swing, and yet still limber and slim and carefree and of course, decked out with wombs of crushed velvet just purring to incubate - well, if we don't have a mate and a bun in the oven by then, ya know... we just keep... living.
We're not meant to focus on love, right, cause love's gotta find you, remember. He won't love you if you stalk him like your prey. Family is not enough to want, you have to be well-rounded, you have to want other things and have other dreams - but not too many, cause remember there's a clock ticking. Go climb a mountain and cross the desert on horseback, watch your calories, don't watch your calories - but also you have to make money, your education is going to take awhile, and did we mention for every one of you fiercely pursuing your dreams, there's a cuter younger version of you with a better womb, tighter thighs and less off-putting fierceness, and also men have no clocks, few limits and less risk, so... well... good luck out there.
ew.
rant aside, this vision of life is empty and sad. It's so cheap, so intellectually lazy. If anyone knows a publication whose articles are not dripping with condemnation and ruin, please, tell me. PLEASE.
