This may be a topic somewhere on the site but I'll throw it up anyway.
I had 'Black Swan' in mind because of some of the highly charged scenes (And perfectly filmed.) in the film and I worked my way back through some of the films
I've viewed over the years I felt broke ground for films such as 'Black Swan'.
There's been erotic content in film since the silent film era and I'm sure this subject would fill a decent sized book so I'll just stick with the films that I view as landmark not only for erotic content but all the other aspects of a great film, acting, writing, directing, etc.
What better place to start than, 'Picnic at Hanging Rock'. Dark, brooding and at times, ethereal, Peter Weir's 1975 film boils sexuality throughout.
The first major role for Anne-Louise Lambert, she plays the role of the sexual center of the film very well.
I'm going to jump ahead to 2005's, 'Fingersmith'. Based on one of the novels of the brilliant Sarah Waters, the sexual tension is a times brutal and unpleasant. Other times, deftly and gently depicted. At least two scenes could be vids on IFM with hardly a change. Aisling Smith works with Ms. Waters to bring her wonderful novel to the screen as faithfully as can be done.
I'll end my picks with what I consider to be one of the best films ever made.
1994's all woman film, 'Sister My Sister'. There are no male actors on screen and most of the story revolves around four women in a setting so dark and so fraught with tension that it put's the viewer on the edge of their seat all the way to the end, and there is more of a sexual explosion than tension released, as in most films of the genre. Some production problems arose as Jodhi May was only 17 at the start of filming and the subject matter needed to be portrayed so as not to shift focus from the brilliant acting, filming and direction.
'Sister My Sister' is easily one of my top 25 films of all time. If you're not riveted by this film, you may want to consider some lighter fare. I found myself so involved with the plot and the acting that I became as paranoid as the two main characters.
Anyone else have faves?

Ooh, I definitely want to see Sister My Sister.
The films that spring to mind when I think about sexually charged and beautiful scenes start with Dogtooth, as that's what I saw most recently. OMG so twisted and crazy... but yeah I did love the cold bizarre licking of sisters and brothers and strange women speaking Greek and the bathing suits and the tennis whites... oh the tennis whites.
Then I think of "J'taime Moi Non Plus" where Jane Birkin both masturbates ala IFM and then gets fucked in the ass on the floor. SO hot, so beautiful.
Also The Dreamerss because Eva Green has a 3-way with her brother and the American boy. So charged with youth and the strange intensity of living a life cinematic... she stands very deliberately in front of both of them and takes off her clothes, swaying.. and she is spectacular.
Shortbus is chockfull of sexy hotness especially every time Jay Brannon is sexualised... including singing the Star Spangled Banner into his ass during the all boy 3-way. Wow.
There are so many little moments in film, good film that send the best kind of shocks of arousal through me... when art and sex get together, and get together well, the result leaves me throbbing and sensitive and achey and all of it, full body full mind. There're not many feelings in life that I like more, really.

If you want slightly messed up and controversial there is Larry Clark's 'Kids' and some old school Brooke Sheilds in 'Pretty Baby'.
Other than that, while it's not really overtly erotic, I kinda love the young fumbling romance of 'Stealing Beauty'. Plus Liv Tyler is amaaaaazing!

My first copy was a terribly copied, but legally purchased import and the sound was horrible and they cut one of the most powerful sexual scenes completely out. When I finally got a good copy, I wasn't expecting the scene and nearly passed out.

Forgot that film and Pretty Baby as well. Pretty Baby stands up as a good film in many aspects and being a lifelong Brooke Shields fan and having met her, I should have mentioned that one.

Love Eva Green and 'Cracks' isn't without it's sexual content well depicted. Maria Valverde steals the movie. Almost. Eva's acting is first rate.

Know the feeling well and for me, if that isn't present from the start, I can't manufacture it on demand and that leaves a sexual encounter no more than masturbating with someone else in the room. Not in a good way, either.

I've wanted to contribute to this thread since it first appeared, but I realised I had no good tips, and I have nothing to add about the films you've already mentioned.
However, I do now at least have a tip. Last night I watched an independent film called Now and Later. The film centres on an investment banker, Bill, who screws up big time, loses his employer a crap ton of money, is arrested, and then jumps bail. His former driver offers to help him get out of the country, and while waiting for the truck that will take him across the border, he stays with a friend of the driver, Angela.
Angela has made the opposite journey, coming to the US as an illegal immigrant from Nicaragua, working as a volunteer nurse and waitress, and their conflicting philosophies lead to some interesting conversations about life, society, sexuality and politics. A lot of it is about criticising the foreign policies of the US, and western life styles, but the criticism is well founded, and as we later learn, based firmly in Angela's character, so she's not just a medium for the script writer.
In between their conversations, they fuck. And I mean fuck. I couldn't say for 100 % certain, because it's never filmed graphically, but the sex is most likely real. I know for a fact Bill's erections are.
What I liked most about Now and Later, aside from the fact that it was a real mood setter, was that it made no apologies for what it is. The dialogue is intelligent, leaning toward the spiritual side, and the sex is as integral to the story as any other facet of the narrative. And also, there's no backlash, no need to break up the talking and fucking with exciting turns of event. Typically, films that push the envelope on sexuality seem to always have a backlash of some kind. Either the film is trying to make a point about morals and the people having sex end up unhappy, or there's a plot twist where everything takes a turn for the worse and no one has time for sexy times any more.
Not so here. The entire film is about Bill's and Angela's sexual relationship over the course of a few days, and that's it. So if you're looking for a sexy film that stays overtly sexy throughout, I can definitely recommend Now and Later.
