I thought this thread was supposed to be about sex in movies, not "I like this movie"? People are posting movies which have nothing to do with sex (except, as a pedant will point out, all movies, indeed all life, is about the urge to procreate. Except Citizen Kane.).

If someone is following this thread in the desperate hope of finding movies that feature "feeling" moments, they will be hopelessly disappointed by now.

BTW: I was pleased to see that "Show Me Love" finally got released on DVD in Australia recently. I wonder if it will be followed by the rest of Moodysson's work? No, no "feeling" moments, but "Show Me Love" is a sweet little film about two girls falling in love.

I still think Harry Potter 1 is the best movie ever made. I think sliding Doors comes a close second tho, Thats got a tiny bit of sex in it

Right you are; the earlier thread you linked to is indeed wonderful and highly worthy of being resurrected and being put back on topic again.

Meanwhile, we're all just such an opinionated bunch, and we clearly enjoy visual stimulation and some semblance of storytelling, I thought it's be nice to have a place to talk about film in general.

I've just myself walked in from seeing The Da Vinci Code, about which I'll say nothing, really. . . .

My friend the movie critic said about The Da Vinci Code, "made me think that National Treasure wasn't so bad after all." I just feel bad for Ian McKellen. "Gandalf" is starting to look like one of the more serious parts he's done lately.

There will definately be a place for it on my wall when it comes out on DVD. If you havent seen it yet, all I will say is follow the story, there will be an ending you will never expect.

It's about speculating whether or not an actor is actually performing the deed or acting like she's performing the deed - It's a little bit of a turn on.

You have gotta see "Bubba Ho-tep": 75-year old Elvis Presley battles an Egyptian mummy. Now that's what I call a premise. It's actually a rather touching film, not at all what I had expected, and it works better as a meditation on ageing than as a horror-comedy. Excellent, quirky film.

Elvis and mummies how could you go wrong. My boyfriend just loves Elvis so maybe this is a DVD we can agree to watch together (the only other time this has happened was with Mad Max and then he had to do the voices for a month after).
Also no ones mentioned 'Harold and Maude' - thats a great film!

"Harold and Maud"! Bud Cort and the ever-incredible Ruth Gordon. Yeah, that's a good one, weird, funny and just plain unique.

Max, perhaps you should warn your boyfriend that there are no actual Elvis songs in "Bubba Ho-tep"; getting the rights to just one of them would probably have been five times the film's budget. It does star Bruce Campbell, however, and I understand that he's quite popular among men and women alike.

Come Monday, I'm going to invest in the fourth season of "Curb Your Enthusiasm". It's a TV show and not a movie, I know, but it's so funny I think it deserves to be mentioned.

"Show Me Love"!? Is that what they decided to call it? The original title is "Fucking Åmål" (Åmål being a town in Sweden), but when it was up for Best Foreign Film Oscar, they had to change the title, because you can't have filthy (and incomprehensible) titles like that at the Academy Awards, can you? I never did hear what they decided to call it, so thanks for the information. It's one of the best Swedish films in many a year, and Moodyssons "Tillsammans"/"Together" is almost equally excellent.

Oh, I like Ms Dunst a lot, but I didn't like Crazy/Beautiful (although I would have liked to have seen the scene which the director (in commentary) said was originally supposed to have her walking naked through the house).

I haven't seen Get Over It yet. Or Elizabethtown or The Cat's Meow, for that matter.

Yes, this is F***ing Åmål - one of the extras on the DVD mentions the original name. I was intrigued by a writeup of it, so I got the Strand Releasing DVD from the US - liked it a lot. Now it's finally available in Australia (took years!). I really like the ending of this film.

I know that one! It's one of the funniest films I've ever seen. It's been shown at least a couple of times on TV here. Beautiful understatement and sublelty. When Goran finally explodes it's so funny.

That would be a "he", not a "she". And I agree completely about the scene where that kind, put-upon little man finally goes ape. Göran is played by Gustaf Hammarsten, a very fine actor who (sans beard) plays the lead in another good, recent film called "Skenbart"/"Illusive Tracks" that has slowly started to get released outside Sweden. That film is hysterically funny, beautifully shot in sepia tones and features a great number of Sweden's best actors. It won some sort of award in Italy, which is nice, especially since it unfortunately wasn't much of a success here. It was directed by Peter Dalle, a writer/director who's brilliant at combining comedy with acerbic comments on human nature.

I'm not familiar with Pagnol, but otherwise these people are not forgotten, at least not by me . I'm very fond of Japanese films, notably Kurosawa (of course) and Ozu.

I'm constantly on about German silents, which are often so atmospheric I need to remind myself to breathe. Lang's "Die Nibelungen" and Murnau's "Der Letzte Mann"/"The Last Laugh" spring to mind.
