I have all my disks MP3'd and a 40Gb iPod, so it's more individual tracks than albums.  Right now, mostly it's Machines of Loving Grace (mmm, Butterfly Wings), Juno Reactor, VnV Nation and Covenant.  Offset with a little bit of Andrew W.K. because the man is so damn cheerful it's fun.  I'm sort of listening to Rammstein and KMFDM again, but the latter's last concert in Australia sucked so hard it's almost ruined them for me.  Oh, and I'm always relistening to Bond and E.S.Posthumous because I'm in love with the violin.

Hmm....I sense a fellow industrial fan for some reason...heh.

I'm quite sad to hear you were disapointed with KMFDM's show in Australia. They're my favorite band and their Toronto show on the Hau Ruck tour was incredible. I love their latest album (the aformentioned Hau Ruck) but Rammstein's recent Reise, Reise was excellent as well.

Recently I've been listening to quite a bit of Front 242 (particularly 06:21:03:11 Up Evil and 05:22:09:12 Off) and this electro-industrial band called Aslan Faction.

This is a long shot but does anyone know where the heck I can find that western song that has the whistling at the beginning...

something along the lines of whistle whistle whistle der der der whistle whistle whistle der der der big_smile

I need it for a presentaion I am creating for uni.

Cate already came up with the answer for ya, but I just wanted to add that a good friend of mine is a huge fan of westerns and actually had that song as his ringtone for a while!

Max-

He's a Los Angeles based artist called Luke Chueh.  I really dig his work.  Lots of things that we generally think of as cuddly creatures turned into monsters.

Here's a blow-up.  I actually have one of these in my house.

Re: Currently listening to thread

My current obsession is with:

Angels and Airwaves - "We Don't Need To Whisper"

This record is one of the newest in the ever-growing list of guilty pleasures that I have in my collection.

When records started to go digital, I was so stoked because I could buy and listen to what I wanted without the asshole kid behind the counter judging me on what I was buying.  In other words... being "rockignized".

Does anyone else have guilty pleaures?  Musical guilty pleasures, I mean.

Re: Currently listening to thread

Right this very second I am listening to Zero 7 with Sia Furler. I prefer Sia's solo works, but her work with Zero 7 is really great to chill out to.

I mostly listen to metal, but I have a rather eclectic collection of tunes depending on what I feel like listening to. One minute it could be Canibal Corpse, the next it could be Enya. If I like it, I'll listen to it.

Well... there was nothing in my dark side that really interested me. I guess I just dont have what it takes to be a bad guy.

Re: Currently listening to thread

"If I like it, I'll listen to it," says The West Wind, and I like that attitude. Far too many people I know limit themselves to only one type of music, and I think that's sad. Just to show what a broadminded and generally excellent person I am (a legend in my own mind, as they say) I wish to state that what I listen to most right now is a healthy mixture of Tom Waits, Madonna and Dvorak.

Re: Currently listening to thread

Maybe my guilt is a product of my upbringing.  Spending most of my adolescence in a "scene" where it's not really acceptable to like other sorts of music publically, might have something to do with it.  Think of how Jimmy the Mod's friends would have accepted him if he liked Gene Vincent?  It was very similar.

But most of the stuff that falls into this catagory is very similar to what I grew up listening to but with a spit shine; making it palpable to the general public (and especially 15 year old girls).  And most of it has also had some sort of commercial success, which is a no-no to most in the world of DIY scenes.

But I agree that if it sounds good, I'll like it.  Just not publically.

Does that make sense?  Probably not.

Abba. It doesn't get much more guilty than that. But before you laugh, there's a REASON they were, at one time, the best-selling band in the entire history of recorded music.

Listening to sexy Swedish women singing harmony... why not? I love their accents. And how many pop vocalists can actually SING these days, much less sing harmony?

What sort of music you like can say something about your moods and emotional responses, but not really very much about the kind of person you are. I found this out when I worked in a few places were you all have to wear the same uniform. You meet someone for the first time with very little information about them except there personality and were I to guess what sort of music they liked, I'd very often get it wrong. I think people label and categorise things and people too much anyway and then bring all their preconceived notions that go with that label or category.
I'm in a ranting mood and when I really get going (e.g. about Hollywood films) nobody reads through it, so I'll leave it there smile3zu.gif for now.

You have a good rant blissed.  It will do you good mate.  Like me to start you off?

Of course everything recorded after 1970 is purely derivative.  There has been nothing original in popular music since The Beatles split.

Ok mate?  Off you go smile.

I'd never laugh at someones guilty pleasures.  Shit, I have three or four ABBA records on vinyl.  Plus, I think I have a covers record somewhere.

Re: Currently listening to thread

I find that my tastes in music go through phases. A few weeks ago I was obsessively listening to the Superstar theme from Jesus Christ Superstar. I have a very odd and mixed collection, most of it upbeat to help me wake up and get me thinking (a process that happens only slowly and unreliably).

What on Earth makes you think that nobody would read your rants about Hollywood movies? It's my personal favourite thing to rant about, so I just hope that you'll get on with it, and then we can rant together in beautiful harmony.

Re: Currently listening to thread

hmm yes its so uncool but I totally have the hots for Chris Isaak! Also all of Marilyn Mansons cover versions in particular 'I put a spell on you'. Black eyed peas Lump song - I know badness. Now that I'm past the point of no return, yes I like Pharell Williams how could you not - "Can I have it like that? You got it like that" Is it still uncool to like Prince?
