I'm taking a class on cognitive neuroscience (brain school) and ran accross this tidy list today, which I thought might be of interest 'round these parts...
In a special section of Time magazine (January 19, 2004) devoted to love and romance, writers presented this list (pp. 76–77) of the benefits of frequent sexual orgasm:
• Lowers risk of heart attacks.
• Burns about 200 calories per episode on average.
• Releases endorphins that help with chronic pain problems.
• Reduces vulnerability to depression.
• Calms anxiety.
• Boosts the immune system.
• Releases oxytocin and DHEA that inhibit the development of breast cancers.
• Is associated with increased longevity.
I'm only reaching this section at 4pm, but it's funny because when I started reading the assigned chapters, it was 8am and raining and I was so cozy I just decided to read in bed. And then I thought, maybe it will be more fun if I touch myself while I read... and so I did, just kind of reading all this information while slowly feeling myself up, and eventually I took a break from reading to come, and actually had such an amazing orgasm! my exercise for the day, complete!
But yeah there's no way an orgasm actually burns 200 calories or Taliah_M would just be dead.

I am going to choose to believe it does burn 200 calories, cos I am hyper orgasmic at the moment & I am totally down with burning 600 calories a day
Seriously though, healthy sexuality is part of being a healthy human. Sex, masturbation & orgasm are treated like they aren't so important & the benefits like this list never really get the mainstream coverage they deserve. Especially when it comes to women's health! Sometimes nothing will touch the pain I experience from endometriosis except for giving myself an orgasm. Sure it's probs a handful of O's I popped off with a hitachi, but it helps sooooo much. I've seen upteen specialists over the years but no one ever says that it will help, but in the womens circles I frequent it is widely acknowledged as incredibly helpful.
We totally need to put this list on a billboard or something! Get it out into the world.

Touch is important too! Some people think that lack of touch is a big cause of mental health problems (and that some relationships get into trouble when the partners stop snuggling and slip into "its Thursday evening so I guess we should have sex now").
For guys I am told that ejaculating regularly reduces the risk of testicular cancer. Use 'em or lose 'em?

I feel more connected to the world and alive when I have more orgasms, but sometimes orgasms make me feel too much. its such an emotional experience.

I will have to agree with you on the touching part. When I was deployed to Iraq for over a year, I realized that the one thing that I missed the most was being able to exercise intimate contact with my wife. I am not talking about sex, but the caressing, holding and kissing. Not something that you can indulge in if (1) your options might not take kindly to being petted and (2) they are not married to you...LOL
