The stumpy tailed or shingleback skink (Tiliqua rugosa) is classified as a "blue tongued skink" due to its blue tongue, which this one showed me right after I took its photo.

I'm more familiar with the smooth blue tongued lizards as well - my friend had one as a pet when I was growing up and they like to hang out in gardens and parks in the NT.
