Re: Free will

Elf's thought about cruelty did occur to me too. Also, don't you think we breed enough as it is, without having to program even more "people" into being?

Also unlike the Sims now, very fast virtual social experiments could tell us a lot about ourselves.

No they couldn't.  They could tell us a lot about advanced computer self-programming but nothing more.  Computers can teach us nothing about being human because they aren't.

Elfman.

If they are sentient they can observe our behaviour objectively, Something we can't ever do because we are observing ourselves, I'm not sure if we'd like their conclutions tho. thats what I meant anyway. but that knowledge can be fed back into simulations that at present are too crude to tell us anything.

Re: Free will

If they are supposed to have emotion, they will not be objective.

further to my comment above how could you defend it ethicly?  You are talking about designing a machine which thinks as itself as human but never can be. It's cruel.

Elfman

It would be self actualised, it wouldn't think it was human it would know that it was an anthropomorphic inteligence and have mates that are the same and proud of it.

Agreed.  They become what the designers think humans should be like,  and who is in a postion to decide that?  I would rather the leave the business of playing god to the real ones.  If there are any.

Anyway gentlemen I'm going to have to duck out of this.  I have to be at work in 7 hours.  Goodnight.

Elfman.

There has to be a level of acceptable objectiveness in science that humans can live with when we observe anything. This is how we are able to accept the results of experiments even tho we are emotional beings, but I think this breaks down when we are observing ourselves. Being observed by another species as we do with other animals brings you back up to a proper level of objectivity you need to accept their findings.

I had dead animals myself. They were very tasty.

I too shall withdraw to my coffin. Good night, Blissed, thanks for an interesting evening!
