home.

i've not been around much, and my posts have been brief.  there are a lot of reasons for that.  the one i'm most willing to disucss is that i have been looking for a home.  i've been travelling and moving and living liminality for a few years now.  it's been revealing and tumultuous and exhausting.  my conceptions of and relationships with place, home, space, environment, etc. have evolved significantly and i am feeling incredibly aware of and affected by them.

finding a home was hard.  people weren't very nice a lot of the time and it was panicky.  but now i have one.  i'm creating this entirely new, customized, versatile, super cute space for myself.  it feels amazing.  the difference between how i felt a few days ago before my home was ready and now is noteworthy.  knowing how i want to live is important.  home is such a cool thing.

i'll be gone for awhile longer i think, since there's no internet and since i want to do my home intensely and well without distraction.  maybe you'll even see my home eventually - it has excellent natural lighting, good for video work.  you can see the bay from every window.  i'm exuberant about this.

i invite others to share thoughts and feelings about home and place.

Re: home.

I can sympathise gala.  I spent a year bumming around from one friend to another a couple of decades ago.  It isn't a lot of fun. It was great when I finaly did get a place of my own after that though.  It wasn't much but it was mine.  I could whatever I liked, watch whatever TV programme I wanted and be alone when I chose.  I remember it was heaven.  Your place sounds great. Don't stay away for too long.  We miss you.

Re: home.

I go through stages of absolute obsession with trying to find a way around my bad credit and buy a house peppered with fuck it, I hate banks I'll spend my money on travel or a car or something. I've just banned myself (again) from looking on real estate.com and fantasising about vintage wallpapered kitchens! I don't actually know why I'm like this, I don't even watch lifestyle shows or anything. I try to blame it ont the crappness of retal property hot water systems but I don't think its just that.

Re: home.

Hi max havn't seen you for a bit, hope your ok.  Real estates still getting cheaper in Melbourne at the mo, you could buy some vacant land and build a living space that you really like thats cheap and environentally friendly. It's great when real estate goes down in price because people only buy it to live in not bank their money. Having somewhere nice to live thats affordable is one of the biggest factors in determining someone's happiness I think.

Re: home.

A home is the most wonderful thing, a place of security, comfort and serenity. To me, it's the one most important material component in life. I remember when I had moved into my first apartment - for months afterwards I would literally shudder with relief and satisfaction when I came home to it and closed the door behind me. I was even in the habit of gently caressing the walls and doorframes every now and then, but that's me smile.

Re: home.

Home.  A nice, quiet area of Leeds where people say "good morning" when they pass you on the street rather than trying to mug you. A wood about 100 yards away to sit and read a book.  A south facing, quiet back garden with squirrels and a pond with a little watefall where I can sit and unwind.  Nothing special I know but I love it:

Re: home.

I showed up, but there was this oddish, pointy-eared fellow there who said he didn't know me. When I said "It's me, Burlesque from IFM!" he threatened me with a rapier and said he would call the police unless I got off his property. I really have to do something about my personal hygiene, and I definitely must stop eating out of garbage bins. A new wardrobe and some plastic surgery would probably help too.

Re: home.

I'm glad I peeked.  I, too, have been feeling the pinch of not being around much, and for a while.  It has everything to do with "home."

To be fair to myself, though, there are three pretty good reasons, combined with my rather perfectionist urges.  (basically, I don't expect to post much until I'm all caught up reading the forum, and I'm a long way from that)

First, I am busy, but I hardly have the corner on that  wink .  What really cuts into my IFM/BA time is my present living arrangement.  The one computer available to me is in a shared space, and the others with whom I share it, let's just say, would not appreciate the vision in these sites.  And finally, of those few times I have both myself to myself and the computer to myself (I'd say on average 1-4 hours a week, spread out throughout the week), the downloading and viewing of the material definitely takes priority over keeping up with the forum.

Change is in the works, but it's slow coming.  ... sorry about the length tongue

Your place looks nice, Elfman.

I'm pretty sure I'm not a saint.

Re: home.

Home....there's no place like home, there's no place like home.

For me, much as Burlesque described so elequantly, home is a place of security, a refuge, a place for me to be. You know, not just be physically, but to "be". I've definitely been in living situations that weren't home at all. I'd say too that I have other places that I feel at home. Outside in the mountains I feel like I'm home. There are a few people in my life that when I'm around them I feel at home. Home is where I can be whoever I am at any given moment with no pretense, no worry of judgement, just freedom to be me. AND that freedom may include dirty dishes in the sink and laundry on the floor.

Okay so it gets a bit cold during the winter, and the gravestones can be a problem when I'm hosting a BBQ, but I like it!

This is going to sound incredibly cliche but I am firm believer that cliches are ok if you actually mean it. I have a friend in my life that I cherish more than anything in the whole world. When I think of home I think of her.

That's true.  A hovel is a palace if you share it with someone you love.  A palace is a prison if you share it with someone you hate.

Re: home.

i didn't actually buy a house.  it's an apartment.  but nesting in it is sublime.

funny story: i hired a craigslister to help me move furniture into my flat.  he eventually told me that i looked familiar, and i figured maybe he had seen me dancing around in a pink tutu at a protest or something around here a few years ago.  later, as we were moving a bookshelf up the stairs, he revealed that he recognized me from ba...i assume that my face looks pretty much the same when i'm moving furniture and when i'm having an orgasm.  we then had a nice chat about sex positivity and the sex community here in sf.  he turns out to be a videographer and has another ejaculating ladyfriend who does her own work here.  networking already...fuck yeah sex positivity!

i've never been spotted before, but it made me feel like a porno princess warrior for sure.  hooray for porn, and hooray for me.  and folks who have good taste.

Re: home.

I hope this doesnt sound too cold, but I don't miss folks back home so much.  I really miss feeling like I owned my whole town though. tramping through freshly rotatilled gardens and running away from the neighbors dogs.  I was a bit of a lone wolf as a kid, my parents made me a separate little house in the backyard with linoleum and sheetrock and electricity.  it was a two story tree house on the edge of a vineyard.   I was always so much more excited to help build the thing than to live in it so to keep it interesting we had to keep adding on to it and re painting it.  I don't feel at home when i cant even put a whole in the wall.
