Over a decade ago I asked myself (and the online community) why so many women remove the hair from their armpits. I suspect the answers are relevant to your question. I am still curious and unresolved about the issue but I have a  suspicion that the 

'social pressure to "conformity" by boys on girls as a result of porn sites watching'

is highly relevant. And in the case of armpits the whole media/advertising push that women should be hairless, odourless and if at all possible pore-less!!
