I stumbled on this amazing instagram page the other day... https://www.instagram.com/grombre/?hl=en
It's all about women who embrace their hair without dying it as it goes silver, grey and white. This may seem basic to everyone else but for me it was an epiphany - soooo many women have salt-n-pepper hair in their 30s and even younger! I just didn't know this. I never thought really about those rows and rows of natural-colour hair dye at the drugstore before, and what women use them for. It's amazing to see these young-looking faces with stunning variations of silver and white hair. It's changing my perspective so much!
I get why people dye their hair but I reckon it's a bit of a shame because the transformation - and the inbetween stage, where you're not fully brunette/blonde/ginger, but not fully white - is just so damn cool. It's unique for every woman. Many women never get to see their transition, because they dye the roots as soon as they come in. I'm nervous about this new life stage, but excited to see all of the stages of my hair as it changes! Looking at these pictures, it really struck me that I've been a long and thick, mostly straight-haired brunette pretty much my whole life and it's such a big part of my identity. It's wild to think that one day I will be a person with differently-textured, light-coloured hair...
Just like I came to Feck and learned that it could be OK, even gorgeous, to keep my body hair natural and intact, I think it fits with IFM ethos to educate women and girls about how natural it is for hair to go silver and white, that growing older is not a bad thing (I love how much you members like our older contributors, it makes me feel so good!) and that you can totally dye it if you want to, but it won't make you look "better", just different
Here are some of my favourite pics from the Grombre project

Yessss!! So much yes. My sister is 49 and has stopped dying her hair and now has some of the most amazing salt and pepper hair I've ever seen. She's even rocking a chunky white streak at the front like Rogue from X-Men.
I love that there's an instagram page dedicated to this because it's not something that is really talked about all that often but is something that people (especially women) have to deal with constantly. I absolutely ADORE S&P hair, and I really hope that I inherit the same kind of hair that my great-grandmother did which was pure white with a red streak at the front. The person I've been the most physically attracted to out of everyone I've ever hooked up with had S&P hair by the time he was 25. It was also in his beard. Hnnnnnnngh!!
I love your hair so much Viva, and your silvery strands are absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait to see it when it has more grey in it. Is it creepy to say that I want to eat it? Not really of course, that would be...horrendous...but I can imagine twirling it up in a fork like spaghetti. Peter Capaldi and Jennifer Connelly both have hair that gives me that urge too.

One of my dear friends went fully grey in her 20's & she spent an endless amount of time & money 'fighting' it - she hated it. I gently suggested a few times to reinvest her cash into a wicked style cut & allowing her silver to shine. Now many years later she has landed in S&P city fully & it looks awesome!
Although I think more than 'looks' her getting all of the way comfy with her hair is what shines through now. I feel like that's the key with any of this stuff, like you said Viva, natural body hair is a thing we've re learnt how to frame... I really feel like we need to re frame the entire dialogue surrounding women's appearances, but especially so with aging!

you're sooo right HB... my boyfriend says he loves curves and bodies with weight and gravity and my not-so-perky bum (which I struggle about) and older women's appearances and bodies... and the truth is, I can't believe him... it's just so crazy!?
