Flautist Greg Pattillo. I like this, he should play with a cool happy Jazz rapper and a few other original artists and make some hits.

I'm revisiting the Pixies. Can I just say that I think 'Hey' is one of the best songs ever!!
Offline
Don't forget 'River Euphrates', or 'Brick Is Red', and 'I Bleed' of course. I can't go more than a month without a heavy dose of Pixies.
When I was in high school I found 'Doolittle' on vinyl at the record store, and bought it because I thought the band's name sounded cool and I liked the cover. We were listening to Love and Rockets, Bauhaus, and other new wavy shit at the time. Needless to say we haven't been the same since.
I've been listening to 'Mesopotamia' by The B-52's, and 'Friends of P.' by The Rentals today.

Now, let's not dis New Wave (or its Goth variants). I believe that one's past infatuations must be honored. And, consider that a portion of cheese IS necessary to make a cheeseburger. A well-balanced diet, etc., etc......

Who will sing me lullabies - Kate Rusby
I had tickets to see the concert where this was recorded. Unfortunately as it turned out on the night of the concert I was on another stage about 300 yards away performing in "A Midsummer's Nights Dream". Was I pissed.

Oh Heavens no, I meant like good kinda' "shit" One of my fondest memories came at a Love and Rockets show. I was in 9th Grade and made it to second base for the first time The Mighty Mighty Lemon Drops were supposed to open up for them but never showed up. We got the Bubblemen instead!
I saw Violent Femmes in the same gymnasium a year later.
I'll never forget those days, I got into New Wave when my friends older sister played Sonic Youth's 'Goo' for us one afternoon. It was a little too "hard" for us then, so she gave us a Bauhaus album to listen to. it wasn't until a couple of years later when I started riding an Alva Fred Smith 'Punk Size' that I started into Pixies and "re-discovered" Sonic Youth, who had been around for a good while by then.
I even cherish my Michael Jackson obsession in the thick of the "Thriller" years.
All of the Elvis talk in the 'Question Game' thread inspired me to give "The Memphis Record" a good listen today.

It's kinda cool that Sonic Youth are still so awesome, I saw them live recently and they've totally managed to age with extreem coolness!

Definitely, very few bands have managed to do that. Keep It Simple.......
I'd love to check them out. In all honesty, I haven't been following their music much at all these days, It'd be very cool to see them live. I'm jealous
And of course it goes without saying how much of a Rock Goddess Kim Gordon always has been. Nico, Patti Smith, Kim Gordon, Kim Deal, voices that will forever be tattoo'd in my subconscious.

I think that the most interesting thing about Sonic Youth is how they have managed to integrate traditional forms (there are actual verse-chorus-verse songs in their repertoire!) into the maelstrom. Seeing them live in a small venue (close enough to shake Ranaldo's hand), and seeing HOW they create the splendid cacaphony is awesome. And it's cool that Gordon-Moore's daughter was hanging out in the wings- with a friend! "What did you do on your summer holiday?" "I toured with Sonic Youth." OMG!

I am listening to The Decemberists' song 'Red Right Ankle' about 10 times a day right now. There are several excellent words in the lyrics, I've been craving simplicity lately, and it's very sing-along-able because there's only one note in it that's too low for me to hit.
At least I've moved on from nothing but Julie Doiron for three weeks.
